Same way Lane has been negotiating behind the scenes without being fired. He believed there was a chance Lane would stay. It’s been clear for weeks that wasn’t going to happen.

It is crazy that pretty much everyone was certain he was leaving Oxford but we apparently didn't have any contingencies in case Lane proved to be exactly what he's always been and what everyone but us knew him to be

We had contingencies but nobody knew for certain until last night. So even though discussions were had, other options are going to go with the sure thing in front of them
