We have had a very tough road stretch this year. That being said, Freeze is taking us in the right direction. I do expect us to get better and not worse. Hopefully, having some games at home will work in our advantage.

I think Auburn is easily the third most talented overall team in the SEC West (behind only Alabama and LSU).
A&M really is a shitty replica of the 2010 Auburn team where they have a marginally above average talent team elevated to top tier due to the play of a couple players (Cam&Fairley vs Manziel&Evans).

The only reason they were as bad as they were last year is because Malzahn was gone and Chizik was trying to run a pro-style offense with spread offense players.
I honestly think Malzahn had more to do with their recruiting success and national championship than Chizik did
Lot of things went wrong for Auburn from changing both offensive and defensive schemes to discipline. The nail in the coffin was when they started losing games, the players quit. (Corey Lemonier our only draft pick told me and some friends at the bar that he is afraid of getting hurt so he isn't going hard)

Malzahn was a big part of the recruiting success but I will tell you straight up that he was a cog in the machine, not the driver. Curtis Looper is an absolute genius as far as coordinating recruiting. He designed things like Big Cat Weekend (which was copied everywhere), Tiger Prowl (now NCAA banned
National Championship = Gus + Cam

Now about Ole Miss,
Hugh Freeze has a mediocre QB, an extremely young offensive line missing one of the only veteran players, multiple freshman starters on both sides and a complete absence of a power runningback on the roster from what it looks like.
The fact that Ole Miss is competitive is a testament to the coaching ability of Freeze. There is some real talent on Ole MIss' roster but most of it is young. The young kids made mistakes but that was expected. In 2-3 years, when that recruiting class becomes upperclassmen and solid recruits that better fit Freeze's system come around, Ole Miss will be dirty.

Spot on
Patience is key with the amount of rebuilding ya'll need to do and it is more a symptom of the initial conditions. Freeze is doing a lot to overcome it all
To compare
As far as coaches walking into ideal situations, Gus Malzahn probably had the best situation possible for a coach in years (probably since Les)
While Freezus came in teaching new O and D schemes, with players he didn't recruit and without a strong recruiting ground
Gus walked into a team at Auburn that had 4 straight top 10 recruiting classes, all but one recruited for Gus Malzahn's offense, returning starters at every position (4/5 offensive OL) and almost zero expectations for this season despite having over 10 players with national championship rings and almost half a team with at least a bowl win under their belt
Even if you were to argue under the pretense that Malzahn and Freeze and their respective staffs are 100% equal
It would take at least another 2 years of stellar work by Freeze to get ya'll on a similar playing field as Auburn. Not saying you can't knock us off next year or the year after, but it takes time to build a program

Damn right... Those 2 posts were golden, spot on..
Our problem is we have stupid fans that dont understand football. The Spirit Board is full of people who really thought that after 1 top 10 recruiting class that we should be on a level playing field with Bama, Auburn, LSU, UGA, etc. Nevermind the fact that those teams have had 5-6 consecutive top 10 recruiting classes. We should be just as good as they are. Thats not realistic. We should now be able to 'compete' with those teams but we're not better than they are. Unlike before, we now have players that could play for those teams but we dont have a roster full. We have a 6-6/7-5 talented team. As long as we get there, we're right on track.
I'm not satisfied and neither are any other 'realistic mediocre' fans. We understand what we have on our roster. we dont have a 10 win roster. we have a 6 or 7 win roster. Next year (if recruiting goes as planned) we'll have a 7/8/9 win team and so forth..
I think Freeze was a little over this head though, sure. He's a young head coach. We expect freshmen/sophomore players to make freshmen/sophomore mistakes. Well you can expect a freshman/sophomore HC to make those same mistakes. I think he's a good coach who will only get better with time and better players.
Is he a 'great' coach? I dunno. but i'm excited about our future and am willing to give him some time to find out

I think one major issue is these young guys are hitting a mental wall. Physically they could run around all day. But the grind is real. Class since this summer, working out, playing on the road several weeks in 80k+ stadiums and having to focus to play grown men.
These guys were in HS last year. Mentally you know its gotta be wearing on them a bit. That's why you are seeing drops by Treadwell and Engram. The amount of focus it takes each and every week is unreal. In HS you can just show up and still be the best player on the field.
Playing at home will help these guys. The crowd behind you can help you keep that focus. You also don't have to deal with the travel after the game.
Outside of the fact we are playing a horrible defense this week, I think the offense is about to come to life the next few weeks. As much negative talk as the defense gets, its currently 5th in total defense in the SEC if I'm not mistaken. I'll take that every day of the week. Offense just needs to wake up.

I thought so too. I chuckle at quite a few things said on this board but I really laughed when he wrote that. I knew it was meant to be my sig quote

It seems like just yesterday that people were saying how thrilled they'd be if we could come out of that first away game stretch at 3-2.

Exactly. The only difference is that Texas wasn't as good as we thought and Auburn was much better than some of us thought

I saw this coming.. Not only is Gus a good coach, but he fell back into his own program. You can't really call that a loss to a year one coach.. shite, he turned down big vandy $$ knowingly so and waited for Chiz to be ran out on a rail.. He's playing with more of his own recruits than Freeze is.

Yeah. People forget how talented Auburn is because of how bad last year was. They still had like 4 consecutive top 10 classes. Not quite the rebuild Ole Miss or Kentucky is.

No shite right?? People got a little too wooly thinking about beating Bama and then somewhat underestimated AU
