We had coaches texting players about money. "We agreed on an amount and that keeps changing. I don't have a mechanism for handling these requests that keep coming up." or whatever it was.
We deserve the death penalty for this exchange, on its own.

Unless we're hiding something....nothing came of this.

Uhhh. The NCAA has wrapped up their investigation and we were set to get a slap on the wrist. Then, this happened. And that caused the NCAA so much embarrassment. They couldn't just let us walk. So they reopened the investigation, found a bunch of other stuff, and decided to make a public example out of us.
So, yes. Something did come of this.
But just the fact that we had coaches texting players about money. And LT had our bagman in his phone under his actual name. shite like that is so sloppy, we deserve to be hammered.

How do you not say here's a shitty prepaid phone and say y'all text this number if you need anything?

This is worse than the Death Penalty.

I don't understand the want or feel that Ole Miss deserves the death penalty for the violations they have been accused of by the NCAA.
It goes on at every school and the only reason anything came up after the draft was because they couldn't nail OLe Miss for anything worth while. So they did something they have never done before. They talked to a recruit from a rival school and gave him immunity to tell his tale. Take it for what it's worth and what can proven. Obviously, the players mother had some interesting things to add to what was going in the recruiting process also.
Less than $60,000 worth of violations, but a one year bowl ban that will cost the Rebels 8-10 million dollars.
Does the punishment fit the crime?
Does $60,000 worth of infractions mean Ole Miss gets death penalty?
Is there a lack of institutional control by the staff or administration? One could argue the administration to be at fault when boosters are getting involved with recruits. I doubt if the head coach has much pull when it comes to telling boosters what to do.
It's a witch hunt, no money bags were found, even the reason for reopening the investigation left the NCAA with egg on their face, nothing came of the request for money to the electricity bill?
So why do so many believe the death penalty is deserved.
Simple, they know that Hugh Freeze can beat SEC top tier teams with less talent. What happens when he can achieve equal talent?
The Tide could be turning and the powers that be don't like for the boat to be rocked.
Ole Miss would lose 10 years of the success they have had under Freeze if they let him go. This is what the "others" were hoping for. This is what the Alabama alum investigating the Rebels went looking for.
Screw everyone else, Ole Miss needs to do what is best for Ole Miss football. No one in the SEC has any room to point fingers at Ole Miss during this investigation.

^^^ In essence, I agree with your take. However, the rivals will poke holes in your argument faster than a cat can lick his arse. For starters, the others might as well not be cheating at all until or unless they are caught. Eventually, somebody else will get caught, but as for now, it's irrelevant. Secondly, the fresh approach the NCAA undertook looking for dirt has actually been done before, just maybe not to such a degree. Lastly, the NCAA isn't very limited by some burden of proof. They don't actually need photographs or bank deposits, they appear to just need words from players or heresy and they have all the "smoking gun" they need. Eventhough it may be not be a smoking gun. We'll just have to continue to keep our fingers crossed and get used to 6 or 7 win seasons the completely clean way I suppose. And that will be the good years possibly.

Meanwhile Saban hands out new cars like candy and Mark Emmert who hired him at LSU will do absolutely nothing despite all the online pics that have been posted of Bama stars and their cars

All I know is this. If CHF by some Karmic happening beats Saban again this year, can we just become the official bad arse school with no fricks to give?

I would love it so much if y'all beat Bama
I really don't understand what is happening with y'all, but it just feels shitty - reading tRant you would think that the SEC is actively seeking a replacement school for when y'all get the "death penalty"
Just glancing through this board, it seems that CHF still enjoys fan support and that a 1 or 2 year post season ban may be likely (with a few schollys)
I'm hoping that it goes easy tor the Rebs - seems like 2 or less year ban on bowls and 15 or less scholarships for 4 to 5 years would not be horrible based on the rumors flying?
And I think an expectation of 10 years set back is overly pessimistic...
Question - what would you guys consider a "win" Insofar as NCAA punishment at this point?

1 year bowl ban would be a huge victory. Likely not losing any people. 2 year bowl ban and we're looking at some major attrition.

I just want them to get it over with. This has been over our heads for what 3 years now? Just get it over with so we know what we can do.

Wouldn't it be some shite if Freeze survives this? All these frickups are on him, and we're still going to pay him 4 million+ a year? Geez.

I know we can't win any titles or go bowling, but if we play well enough can we be ranked at any point?
Posted on 6/6/17 at 1:19 pm to Insideradvantage
Sure. Auburn finished ranked like 6 by the AP in 1993. Ohio State finished #3 in 2012.

^^^ That might serve as a little added incentive.
