Well, Saban and his protege Smart both run it as does Grantham at UF. Hope the rumors are true that Grantham is going to Cincy and Shoop to UF. Mullen beating them and then stealing their DC would infuriate them.

Take it FWIW but it looks like Matt House, DC at Kentucky, is leaving for the NFL after all. There was a lot of scuttlebutt about Jon Sumrall being a candidate for the job a few days ago. Sumrall was quietly a really good hire last year.

He had a really good defense when he had the players. He's just an OLB coach now. It could be worse.

I like the idea of a 3-4 defense. It's difficult finding quality defensive linemen. Maybe having 4 225lb lbs would be more productive than 3 300lb linebackers and a 240lb defensive end that can't pass rush worth a shite and gets lost in pass coverage.

Well, this year we should find out just how much we are hurting for talent or how badly we were hurting for SEC caliber coaches.

Both should show improvement. I just hope Luke improves on game day, enough to add 2 or 3 wins to the W column.

No, that was a very serious question, but it appears I have and don't like the answer. I hope you are wrong.

Not sure why people are acting like it's a decent hire. He didnt really recruit well, he basically blitzed every play and our defense got wrecked by everybody and he couldn't figure out how to stop any offense.

He was essentially McGriff. Granted he is a LBC now instead of a DC. I expect him to still not recruit well but as long as he doesnt touch anything we should be ok.

People act like McGriff wasn't a good position coach too. Sometimes dudes are just clearly in over their head at a coordinator position. They both sucked arse as coordinators, but they're better served with less responsibility

If he doesn't recruit, then frick him, but I think Fuente is a pretty good coach and has a pretty good staff at Va Tech, so there are worse programs he could've been with when we brought him back

He was McGriff before there was McGriff.

Both guys relied 100% on player talent.

McGriff and Nix are both "good" when they're in a low key position with alot of talent so they can skate along without really doing anything.

You really are being petulant. Nix was a great DC at So Miss w/o talent. Also a DC at SC and did a good job at OM. He is a position coach for God’s sake.

So far Luke is getting it done on these hires. I like the idea of new folks with better familiarity with Mike’s scheme.

Agreed. As long as we can replace his recruiting efforts in the Memphis, north Mississippi area that it sounded like Sumrall was doing a good job with.

I am very interested with all the QB signings and what our QB depth chart will look like in about 2 years. Especially with the JA kid (who I bet is gonna be Ryan Buchanan 2.0) and then the kid we took from Hattiesburg looks like we will have some competition in the future.
