Thanks. I was impressed our D never quit. But keeping Mateer in game was asinine. He’s lost us both games. Not saying we win vs GA but we’ll never know if we had competent QB.

Buster Faulkner is the real deal.
He was on staff for both of our natties.
He turned Georgia Tech into a tough out.
The consolation for everyone is that he will probably be a head coach in the near future.

The quarterback position at Oklahoma should be performance-based, not availability-based.
It’s clear that there’s nothing, outside of being injured, John can do to that will result in him not playing.
That doesn’t gel with the “standard” we’ve been told about repeatedly.
The fact that John wasn’t sat even for a series after his third turnover means 1 of 2 things.
1. TR/JR QB Whitt Newbauer has not been developed enough in two years to be trusted with even one series.
2. It doesn’t matter if Whitt’s any good as long as John’s healthy enough.

I don’t even want to hear presser because words mean nothing only actions. Actions tell me Brent is in way over his head. If he as HC won’t bench QB then he’s lost the team.
Two things really stand out to me:
1) I have clear memories of OU football since 1974, including the Boo Blake years. Outside of BV's tenure, I cannot recall any OU teams that have zero viable backups at QB. None.
2) Watching Brent over there with his arms folded and a somewhat dumbstruck look on his face all day. Contrast with Kirby who is active in all parts of the game. Brent is simply not a serious HC. But here we are, stuck with this shite for the next 8+ years. Way to go, OU Admin. fricking retards.

The D players need to go to Brent and tell him to bench Mateer else they portal out end of year. To have such shitty O must be heartbreaking for them. Stone and Kip played wounded and yet we trot out this worthless qb is disgusting.
If Brent doesn't want to coach offense then he needs to step down. Coaching means overriding OC when needed. But he does nothing.
On paper he thinks we can still beat tx and then win out and make playoffs. Fans know that ain’t happening. Its going to hurt us for years if he doesn't act soon. Mateer is just an older version of Arnold.
The offense has sucked for 5 years other than Gabriel. Florida hired the OC we should have taken. I heard Brent wanted him instead and it seems Brent is trying to prove a point by sticking with Arbuckle and Mateer.
The scheme was actually great yesterday but if Arbuckle won’t at least try the backup for a few series then he’s too invested in Mateer instead of OU. So he’s got to go. We had open receivers all night long and just needed a qb who could pass it to them.
Going to be long year and off season. I do believe at some point if admin want to go a different direction Brent would resign and work out an amicable deal with the money to work for both. And the extension money won’t come in to play. Brent does love the program and I think would work with them to end in good terms. It won’t happen this year unless we miss playoffs but thats my thoughts.

1. Sigh. Let’s just get this over with.
2. Georgia is an excellent team. No notes.
3. Some days we get to unhitch the wagon. Other day, we stand idly by while the wheels come off.
4. Kip Lewis is a monster and played incredibly well.
5. Georgia has a good offense full of NFL talent and very efficient and talented QB. They made some plays of course. But OU’s defense played extremely well.
6. David Stone is a baller.
7. Robinson’s int wasn’t quite DJ Graham, but it was pretty close.
8. Tate Sandell seems to have lost a little of his magic, too.
9. Offensive line showed some growth yesterday. Not exactly where we need it to be, but without Fasusi, this might be who we are.
10a. I’ve put off talking about Mateer. I don’t know what to say. Do you play the guy who is a hard-nosed FB player, makes some throws, works hard for extra yards, and, oh yeah, commits absolutely critical booboos during the game costing your team any chance at all to win?
10b. Or do you take a chance on your QB2 or, the future, QB3, and let them grow? I doubt they are as good as Mateer on the stat sheet, but maybe they can not put up a 4 in the turnover column? Does asking Whitt or Bentley to play game manager give us a better chance?
11. If we can’t run the ball effectively, it probably doesn’t matter.
12. I’ll add, QB1 has to see the field better, improve his touch, and make better decisions in his progressions. I just assume guys who haven’t played as much wouldn’t improve us there. Newbauer maybe can?
13. Manny Choice might need more of a look. He’s yet another example of people I heard about all fall and then you get to the season and where are they?

Also, we can put the shoulda kept Hawkins talk away. He is a running qb that is truly looking to run first. His passing was bad in first conf game when facing a breathing defense. We saw him last year and against the defenses we play he would be no better than Mateer. He might run better but oir standard needs to be higher.

I really like this kid he’s an OU legacy. But he felt he should start here and knew Mateer would so left. He will do better at WVU than he would do here due to competiton/schedule. Has a much easier one there so he still made the right decision. I saw some saying we should kept him and then started him. But as bad as Mateer is him starting would not have been any better.

Rule #1 for Kirby is to stop the run at all cost. It sacrifices aggression and pass rush.
But it forces teams to beat you one dimensionally.
That is extremely difficult to do.
For all of the similarities between Kirby and Venables, they are completely different in their approaches.
Please go out and find a way to beat the Gators 11/7/26.

Without these turnovers, it’s likely 14-7, maybe 14-10 or 14-14 at halftime.
The rest of the game was 13-13. Which would have been 13-14 without the desperation 2 pt play.
The 4th quarter could have been 27-21, 27-24, or 27-28.
That’s how important quarterback play is.

Surprisingly, OU didn’t have that bad of a game. In my estimation Georgia played about 7-10 points better if you remove turnovers. UGA was more disciplined, and had an explosive run play. The turnovers, especially the timing and significance of them, drastically widened the score differential.
That’s not to say the game should have been different. Turnovers aren’t flukes for OU. We have a QB problem, and an O-line problem. Mateer has plenty of physical talent. He doesn’t have the ability to process the speed of the game in the SEC. That is much more important when the O-line cannot run block, or consistently pass protect. Better O-line play would help a lot. Mateer just isn’t the QB to play at a high level under pressure.
