It is sad to see the Sooner Nation so down on their team before a big time road game.
Preseason, we were hoping this game would be a clash of titans. I still think it is when you consider the OU defense and UGA offense. But I've seen a few OU podcasts similar to your take where they don't care about the OU defensive play because the offense has been so irritating.
My fear is that the mistakes made by OU to this point appear very correctable. I do see OU taking big swings against the Dawgs. And the closeness of the game depends upon that batting average.

Fans are tired of the last 10 years. Riley had the great offenses and no defense. His kick decision plus defense cost us the GA game.
Then Brent is in year 5 and offense sucks now, where defense is great. Its such a flip.
Brent isn’t going anywhere but he has to fix the O. We have an offensive mind Kevin Wilson on staff as an analyst. He could take over today if needed. But I think Brent wants to see how GA and tx games go first. Our season is on line for playoffs. Win one of these 2 and at 3-2 we have a chance. Go 0-2 and be 2-3 and thats gone.

A big part of offensive playcalling is calling the plays that put the players in a position to win. My limited outside viewpoint on 3 games this season appears that the team does not pay attention to details. And when you can't get the details right, it doesn't matter what the playcall is. It only takes 1 F/U to blow a play.
We had Todd Monken at OC 2020 to 2022. He was the biggest A-hole. But his anal retentiveness got players to know their role. Know their keys. Know their techniques. And we had an extremely high level of execution with multiple schemes (which eventually find something every defense struggles with).
Is it attention to detail and your OC/HC's fault?
Or are play designs and sets of plays (patterns) the problem?

Fitting a lot of moving parts into a viable gameplan is hard with changes. Brent wants O to do O. Talent is on staff player wise. Only coaches can teach that talent.
I will say, Arbuckle actually has created some good schemes at times and Mateer just hasn’t taken advantage. And our TE room is the best of all O rooms so far. RB coach put 2 in NFL so he’s got brains.

The OC was and still is simply not ready for SEC-level play. He's an Air Raid disciple with very little experience. He has designed some decent run plays but his problem is best described like he's got a prize wheel - he spins it and whatever random play it stops on gets called. No setting up play action, no continuity, nothing makes sense.

Directly, it is the OC's fault. But at what point does the HC demand changes? So far in his tenure, it seems Venables has zero idea of what a competitive offense looks like.

100% YES. You can imagine why the seemingly random playcalling can get the offense on its own heels.

The offense reminds me of a barn find. Looks good on outside other than dust. But try and start it and nothing. Is it the distributor. Gas line clogged. Carburetor. Spark plugs. Wiring. Ignition.
Thats where we are. The offense has so many things that are not working in harmony. And that falls on OC. Why didn’t he try backup qb last game and get him reps. If Mateer falls flat or get injured then backup would have some reps to not be ice cold. And he might be better, we’ll never know. I do know backup is bigger than Mateer and could run better. Mateer runs so much let the backup get those runs.

No problem. We’ll send 2 WRs on same route. Have closest one as primary and Mateer throws to him and furtherest one makes the catch.
