texas bandman on Sooner Fans, Lubbock Sooner on Land Thieves and Dirt Burglars. Must have joined this site a long time ago since I'm registered as texas bandman.

As far as the handle goes, I was a band director in Texas for almost all of my teaching career. I am an OU alum, living in the purgatory of Lubbock. I have season tickets for football, softball and women's gymnastics so I keep the highway between Lubbock and Norman busy.

Marfa on Landthieves and Dirt, but I haven't posted much there recently. Wild new world we're in, but I'm figuring the Sooners will more than hold their own in the SEC. I like where we're headed.

I graduated Ardmore

Man, I get a queasy feeling any time I drive by there. Only reason is because I had a flat tire between there and the Arbuckle wilderness on 35 when I was headed back to campus one Sunday night after visiting my girlfriend in Dallas for the weekend.

It was in November, cold, and before cell phones. About 9:30pm.

NOBODY was traveling that time of day and I can remember having to wait on passing cars to have a very short amount of light to see what I was doing. It was so pitch black that I literally couldn't see my hands in front of my face. I was out there on the side of the interstate for probably 2 hours trying to get that flat changed. No flashlight either.

That was one big lesson in determination, staying tenacious, and being self-reliant, working in super harsh conditions. That may be the reason I always tried to stay prepared ever since that experience.

I was known as just plain old Goofball on the Dirt Burglars board. For some reason I was unable to log in one day but i'm sure glad to be back.

Glad you're back. What is the count of OU Five Stars?

Same as LandThieves/DirtBurglars

Checking in from the Florida panhandle.

My neighbors are hardcore Bama fans, husband is level headed and knows OU is going to be tough in the SEC.
Wife is a former college softball player and HATES that OU Softball is coming to the SEC! LOL.

Reminds me of a time when I was returning to Ardmore for semester break from Norman. This was before the interstate was completed and there was a long gap from Pauls Valley to Armore.
It was just starting to snow when I left Norman. Should'v turned back but pressed on. By the time I got to the the Washita river, the road was icing over. I was following a highway patrol cruiser and I just drove like he did.

When we cleared the Arbuckles, I tuned into the Ardmore radio station in time to hear them announce that Oklahoma Highway patrol car #54 had just infomred them that the Arbuckles were now closed to all traffic.

Yep, #54 was the car I was following. I was the last car over the Arbuckles that night.

Took over five hours to travel from Norman to Ardmore instead of the usual 90 minutes. My parents were all over me for even attempting the drive.
