Experiencing altered states of consciousness is appealing to certain people and unappealing to others. Some take it too far, some don't. Consider the Vervet monkeys in the Carribean islands that developed a taste for fermented sugarcane. They go and steal people's drinks now because they love getting hammered and it doesn't have a damned thing to do with maturity (or you, for that matter).
Actually, we're not Vervet monkeys, we're humans. How Vervet monkeys behave should't be an explanation of why humans choose to get drunk. And yes, many humans are proud of their drunkenness, braggadocios about it, very very immature about it. So many think it's funny.

Yes, I do believe that drunkenness is immoral for lots of reasons with the least not being the effect it has on family and relationships.
You can get drunk and not have it effect your family or your relationships. I don't see why you can't grasp that concept.

Methinks they would get high, but probably not so much as your horse.

Actually, Vervet monkeys are primates and so are we. Our brains are very similar and it's clear that the effects of alcohol on both brains are just as similar. Some people (like their primate brethren) like the feeling they get from drinking. It's pretty simple.
It's clear that you don't like alcohol and there is probably a much deeper personal issue here that you don't care to divulge. That doesn't change the facts, though.

Do you believe your alcoholism (drunkenness) is beneficial to you and your family?

do you think that it isn't? maybe his family loves that about him? Maybe his family is very proud of him for it. Who are you to judge?

No, nothing personal except for the question, which still hasn't been answered, as to why folks get drunk.

I'm not sure. I think a lot of things when i'm drunk. Let me get back to you on this one. I'm working on a bottle of vodka right now

Does my appeal to brain chemistry not satisfy you?

Why? How does drinking a bottle of vodka enhance your life...and the life of those around you?

Of course not. Getting drunk is a personal choice to alter their reality.

Obviously, he feels that his ordinal utilities will be maximized by consuming alcohol rather than choosing another activity. This is true of any and all behavior.

I guess the dopamine released by alcohol could not influence a person to consume it.

Why do some adults feel the need to tell other adults who can drink responsibly (even if the end result is drunkeness) that it's immature? Or that they shouldn't derive enjoyment from such a state?
