Study after study has shown the possible, and sometimes probable, adverse affects of marijuana and the physical/psychological risk of 'magic mushrooms'. "Never directly caused a death" is subjective and must be considered in the long term effects those substances have on one's mental and physical condition.

I grew up in the 60s when all this junk exploded in use and I have friends who have used both, especially marijuana, and they have suffered from the long term use of the substance. I've seen the effects firsthand.

No one has ever died from marijuana or mushrooms ever. Don't backtrack now by saying you've seen ill effects.. which is most definitely a subjective area.

This isn't the typical 'you're a moron' comment on the internet.. this is an actual diagnosis. You are actually a real moron. Really, not trying to insult you, or feel better about myself, you truly are an idiot.

I already explained to you how it can happen and you accepted it. I'm now done because you're obviously just arguing to argue at this point.

Nope. One can drink and not get drunk. One cannot get drunk without drinking an amount to cause them drunkenness.

Nothing really complicated here.

To answer your question though, there are several reasons people like to get drunk. It helps to relax and socialize without being constantly uptight or anxious. It can help you forget about your everyday issues. It's fun. It definitely helps with creativity in the correct amounts. It's a form of social bonding. It provides opportunities for conversations and connections that would have never been had otherwise. It makes A LOT of music more enjoyable or at least bearable.

Also, anyone that doesn't enjoy a good beer or glass of scotch after a long day is missing out on a great part of life.

The question really has been answered long ago and the answer is tragic. Many must become other persons through excessive alcohol consumption, getting drunk, in order to enjoy life. Without that, life isn't as enjoyable.

The emptiness of their lives is tragic.

If you already thought you knew the answer to your own question, why did you ask it?

I said that for me, getting "drunk" or drinking to attain a buzz, which is technically being drunk, helps me relax after a long day and it is enjoyable to drink with friends.

My life would be fine without it. It is not a "crutch", it is just a luxury. Why can I not enjoy that luxury because you think that all people that get drunk are somehow less intelligent than you or their lives are in shambles? That is the vibe you have been putting out

I asked the question to see what various responses, excuses really, that I would get. I was interested in what justification one would give for entering an altered state of consciousness.

As far as the 'buzz', that is a mind altering state. You are mentally in a condition you wouldn't be in without the level of alcohol consumption you need to attain this 'buzz'. You use it to enhance relaxation, to enhance social settings...I know many drink to the level of altering their mind for those reasons. I think alcohol is a crutch in those situations...it's needed for without it the state of consciousness one desires isn't attained.

I'm in no way suggesting, nor do I believe, that those who used mind altering drugs are less intelligent than I.

first off your a fricking troll.

second i'm gonna give you my personal experience.

Alot of things in life make me happy. Hunting, pussy, football, family, a pinch of snuff and a cold Coors light. I can do each one and be happy as can be. I can combine these things also and be just as happy. Now you ask why do i drink, because i fricking want to and it makes me happy that's why. I'm happily in a relationship and have a wonderful family. alcohol has in no way interfered with that. I respect that you do not like drinking and that's ok. I probably wouldn't like half the shite you do in your "exciting" life but don't judge folks because of a personal decision that makes them happy. Alcohol abuse is another story and that's when you start asking the folks questions on the behalf of their well being. So i can have enjoy life without drinking because some of the activities i do i cant drink while doing them but if i get a wild hair and want to throw down one night with my friends and family i will do so. I wished i could have been in this thread earlier because this kinda shite pisses me off.

The thread question isn't about folks drinking, it's about the reasons folks feel the need to get drunk.

Apparently you feel that drunkenness enhances your life in some way. Apparently many people have the same view as you.
