Because that terrible fricking commercial for their new album plays every commercial break of everything I've watched for the past few weeks.

I don't hate U2, and actually loved them in the 80's and early 90's. As I got older and expanded my musical horizons, I found their music boring.

"The Unforgettable Fire" was an awesome album when it came out.
Listened to the entire album on Saturday and it's still awesome.

Yeah I thought the free album they put on iTunes would suck 'cause they would just mail it in for a freebie.
But I really like it. I think they put some real effort into it and it paid off. And I'm generally not a fan of theirs. But I like this last album a lot.

U2 is to music what celery or kale is to the food pyramid.

I loved them even in to 2000.
Took my daughter to the 360 tour. It was splendid. Their last two efforts, counting the freebie, have been meh.

I only saw them once. The PopMart tour in Memphis Liberty Bowl.
It was transcendent. And think about that Super Bowl halftime show after 9/11.
But generally I agree. They got old and started to phone it in (starting with the Beautiful Day album . . whatever the name of it was). Y
You guys are leaving out Achtung Baby and Zooropa, both albums probably at their creative peak. Rattle and Hum, while derided, is fun, and of course there's Joshua Tree.
But I think this iTunes freebie is almost unlistenable.

This isn't a very technical analysis, but I don't like how they try to make every song seem so epic. I don't know how else to explain it.
