NWA has 3 Fortune 500 companies in a two county area, plus a big SEC school. It's an area with access to nature, lots of jobs, lots of nice stuff, and white people still use the public schools
It's a nice area, but outside of having 1 more fortune 500 company, East TN has everything you mentioned and some. They've also got their fair share of billionaire philanthropists that are helping advance the area.
2 fortune 500 companies, a large SEC school with multiple other universities in ETSU: 16K enrollment, UTC: 12k enrollment, + several other smaller Universities, A national park in The Great Smoky Mountains, better natural scenery among their mountain ranges/landscapes, plenty of high paying jobs in the 3 larger metros: Chattanooga, Knoxville & The Tri cities, no state tax, lots of people, not just white people(??), who have access to good public schools in those metros. Atleast in Knoxville and The tri cities areas.
Those 3 metros alone make up nearly 2/3rds of the entire population of Arkansas. And if the population centers aren't your flavor they have plenty of small to large towns in between to choose from.
Chattanooga and it's surrounding area by itself > NWA imo. Add in Knoxville and East TN easily runs away with it when comparing the 2 regions.

You're comparing a third of your state to a what is basically a two-county metro area in NWA.
Chattanooga and Knoxville are pretty damned far apart.
As for this:
That's just crazy talk.
Anyway, I'm sure E. Tennessee is a good place to live.
I'm not arguing against that.

Well that's a matter of personal preference. There's not a single part of me that has ever looked east or north for anything. Too cold, old and urban.
The best American cities are mostly west of the Mississippi. NYC being the only exception.

Atlanta? Savannah? Destin? DC? Gatlinburg? Should I keep going?

Hopefully I’m on the right track to that

My original comment was disagreeing with the poster who said NWA is the best area to live in the SEC. I used East TN as an example of an area that is comparable to NWA, but IMO offers more. I'm not from TN fwiw, but I enjoy the region. In particular this time of year when the views look like this and I can go snowboarding in the Smokies

An hour and a half away isn't far. They're within 3 counties of each other. Those 2 cities are very much in the same region.
Again, NWA is beautiful but I think there are comparable regions that offer more and aren't as isolated. Just my take.

Atlanta = a smaller Dallas/Ft Worth
Savannah < Santa Fe. No question which is a better place to live. Savannah wins on history (barely). Santa Fe wins on culture and climate and outdoors activities.
DC < a helluva lot of places west. Combine cold winters with hot, humid-as-hell summers and govt leeches. Zero appeal to me as a place to live, or really even as a place to visit, apart from museums.

Define losing population. It takes one google search to fact check anything before posting it and making yourself look like a dumbarse.

Yes, well Fairfield county, hopefully the town of Greenwich
And please don’t call me a Baw. That’s offensive to me
Live in CT commute to NYC.

East TN is NWA on steroids. It's the most beautiful land locked area within the SEC footprint and it's not close.

If you're career minded the answer is Texas. Job prospects and economic growth here are insane.
But other than that, it's hot, boring, gridlocked, and cookie cutter. And the work culture is more like the New York meat grinder than other places in the south.
Would love to head back to Kentucky at some point. Much better weather, beautiful landscapes, and more family oriented with a slower pace of life.

Probably Texas. Houston is a lot closer to the beach than Atlanta.
