The American Flag does not fly because the wind moves past it.
The American Flag flies from the last breath of each military member who has died protecting it.

frick those people for putting the dog in harm's way.

Assuming that's the reason it's missing a limb.

They didn’t die to protect a flag.

No, they died to protect our freedom and way of life. The flag is a symbol of that freedom.

Which war exactly, feel free to use examples where the combatants are less than 90 years old today...

The flag is a symbol of the Constitution which governs our way of life. That way of life tends to drift left and right of the Constitution but, to date, its power has always steadied the course. It's what makes America great, not the flag.

I support our military as much as anybody, but there is currently no worldwide threat to either our freedom or way of life.

They die to support political interests. It's not as noble sounding, but sadly it's the truth.

frick you man. Just because you live safe from threats doesn't mean they don't exist.

Remember 9/11? 3,000 people lost their freedom to live peacefully pretty fricking quick. So we went into Afghanistan, destroyed as much of Al Qaeda as we could, then attempted to establish order there so that terrorists wouldn't have the ability to train, plan, and prepare to repeat their actions.

And that is where we find ourselves today. You can absolutely argue that Iraq was unnecessary but the war in Afghanistan was real.

The arguments people like you make is actually that existential threats to our nation don't exist. But some military actions are taken so that we don't have a world spin out of control. If we intervened when Hitler built up his military, took Austria, etc., perhaps we could have avoided a massive war that killed millions upon millions of people.

Coming out of that WWII, we decided that we couldn't stay out of world affairs. I am not saying that every war is necessary but a lot of what we do is to keep the world on an even keel.

Additionally, we don't have interest in pirates, terrorists, etc. messing with Americans as they move around the globe so we go after them too.

Honestly?

Makes me think he got screwed up in battle and now he will get screwed by the VA.

But then I am a realist who has been around the block

So that's why we were finger banging ourself in the desert whilst north korea went nuclear? I'm no historian, but i feel we already lost 35,000 men... for no fricking reason.

Part 2 of this... where were we for ukraine/crimea getting invaded? We aren't fighting wars for freedom or stopping invasions, we are playing world police. It's not a good look or sustainable.
