What Common Core is teaching kids - nsfw? you be the judge

Here is a book called “It’s Perfectly Normal” on the 4th grade reading list in Tennessee. Below are photos Victoria Jackson took from the book that a teacher of 30 years shared with her. Parents are not aware that this book is in 4th grade classrooms. Candy Emerson is currently running for a position on the Williamson County Schoolboard in an attempt to remove these books and Common Core from schools, and to remove apathy from the current school board
I'm not posting the illustrations from the book, but you can find them here

Man I just don't know who the wiseguy was that said we should expose little boys and girls sex as soon as possible. Seriously, nothing good can come from this.

Well I won't open it at work if it's potentially NSFW...but as long as it has correct information I would be fine with it.

I don't have a problem with the message or timing. I wish our culture was a lot more open about sex.
Most places aren't ready for that, and I can accept that. I think it's foolish, but I can understand why this book would get pulled from many classrooms. Cultures evolve over time, you can't force it.

You're afraid of a nsfw, but fine with 4th graders seeing what you won't open?

Well you labeled it nsfw...I generally just don't open anything labeled nsfw. You are probably overreacting though.

Yeah, 4th graders really need to know how to put condoms on.

Why not...as long as the sexual information in the book is correct, what's the big deal?

How old are you in 4th grade?

A 9 or 10 year old really has no business with any of this. This is prepubescent. Maybe around puberty, but certainly not a few years before. That's ridiculous.

It's not the book I have issues with, it is more about who and what is being taught to my child. I don't want someone else's moral values being instilled in my child, I would like the moral values I have to be taught to my child.

This as well. Our schools do not need to be teaching this, you can encourage parents to do so but this is one of those topics that's going to get dangerous fast.

America is far too uptight about almost everything. we are especially bad about sex, drugs, and alcohol.

maybe a year or so early, but not that big a deal. I mean at 13 half of them are probably already looking at porn.

The puritans are a dying breed.
We'd be a better, mentally healthier society if we loosened up about all of those topics.

And that's the thing, it's before puberty and before they've even got any interest in any of it. It's just not tenable to teach it that early. For girls it'd be a bit earlier, but for the most part none of them are going to be doing anything with anyone any time soon.

Yeah, one of them may go home and try to masturbate. The HORROR!! The very fabric of society is going to fall apart once a 10 year old sees a drawing of a naked person.

Whats the point of a coloring book teaching about the birds and the bees if half of the kids are already watching girls get bukkaked (sp?)
