Living in a place is completely different than visiting for a few days. I've spent a week in the Anchorage area and had a great time, but I'll never want to live there. I was in the DC area a few weeks ago, but would never want to live there.

I would add Monterey to the list of places already mentioned.

It all depends on what you like to do.

High Colorado elevations are fantastic in the Summer. The air and water feel wonderful. If you go drink a lot of water to stay hydrated. Beer works well also.

Kauai - it has to be one of the most beautiful places on this earth. Don't try to do it on a budget. Expect the drop some serious cash and plan on at least 5 to 7 days.
Sunset dinner cruise the Na Pali Coast, Helicopter tour of the Island, hike the waterfalls and Waimea Canyon, Ride horses in the mountains above Princeville, Take a surfing lesson, take a snorkel/sail trip, zipline the Jurassic World mountain, take in a luau, and go cliff diving into the Pacific. That list will take a week.

Went back in June. Stayed 5 days. Did some hikes, concert at Red Rocks and Rocky MTN National park. Very nice. Will certainly go back.

DC, VA Beach (spent way too much time there. There is a shite ton of historical stuff close), Charleston, Savannah

Haven't been since 2014, so I'm not sure how it is post hurricanes since...
But Key West is basically adult spring break.
There is a clothing optional bar called Garden of Eden and there is at least one B&B that has a clothing optional pool.
Lots of good Cuban food too.

I went on a road trip last year with the main stop being in Rapid City, saw the badlands, the black hills, Rushmore- it's so beautiful there and so different in it's beauty than that around here. Would recommend.
I was coming in this thread to share this. It is a great trip ano would recommend to anyone.
