Science, is a philosophical construct similar to religion in that it seeks wisdom. It is unlike religion, however, in the fact that it isn't biased and it seeks the most efficient means of establishing said wisdom. It evolves and is dynamic where religion is very static and therefore stagnant.

And that's about as nicely as I can put it. All organized religion misses the entire point of their own damn Scripture because they have tinkered with it too damn much in an effort to use it to control people rather than liberate them.

I hear what you are saying but the main aspects of Christianity are still the same.

God’s creation
Fall of man
Christ birth/death/resurrection
2nd coming

All the rest just points to these.

That isn't how I see it. I see the whole crucifixion thing as allegorical to long held rituals dating back far before Christ.

The book isn't meant to be taken at face value.

That's where the Church steps in and tells you it IS literal, and these are the rules Jesus says ya gotta follow. And that's the hook. That's the perversion of doctrine meant to make YOU tell us we shouldn't trust Science.

So we are beating our heads against the wall because you're not ever going to admit this and the entire debate is pointless.

Which the Bible tells you you shouldn't bother with anyways...Except ya are.

What hidden truths? Again the bible is bogus and I'm waiting patiently for you to prove otherwise.

I do like that one bible verse that says that women should only learn from their husbands in their home, and that women shouldn't speak in church and definitely not hold a position of power. Is this one of the hidden truths you speak of?

Sorry Boared, not really following your point in previous post. Allegorical? Really? So the whole betrayal, trial before Ceasar, etc was just some made up story to represent something else?

The way I understand it is the biggest secret in the world is absolute knowledge (through first hand experience) that death is an illusion. Once a person has been on the other side of the veil, it allows them to conduct themselves accordingly on THIS side. Without this knowledge, a person is dependant on others to TELL them how to get where they want to go and that's where the control factor is introduced.

There are other, BETTER ways of peering behind the veil. Yes, the crucifixion story is allegorical. It is also borrowed from older mythologies.

But again, this thread wasn't created with the intention of having a biblical debate. This thread was created to talk about our simulated universe. It would be nice to get this thing moving back in that direction, honestly.

LOL.

Actually, my mee maw made sure that my siblings and I had a foundation in the church. My parents were not church goers. I was pretty good until I was about 15 and got into HS. I was the popular jock and partied very hard. I went to UGA and got even crazier. Life of sin and completely denied that God exists. I got drunk one night Downtown and confronted a group of young people out witnessing for Christ. I ripped a whole stack of phamplets from a young mans grasp and scattered them all over the street just to mock and embarrass him. Told him he was a loon for believing that stuff.

A year or so after college I began to reconsider. I developed my own philosophy to reconcile my gut feeling that this is all by design. It was a pretty snazzy philosophy. I called it the Funnel theory but I don’t really care to get into the details. Like you, I was real smart and had it whipped.

Later in life, I saw the transformation of one of the biggest jacklegs I ever knew. It was like night and day. He studied the word of the Bible like nobody I had ever known and he helped me to go on a quest for the same. My faith slowly but surely went back to Christ but in a way that I hadn’t had as a young boy.

Even later, I was diagnosed with Stage IV Lymphoma and the peace and assurance I had because of my faith affected my whole outlook on that time of my life. It relapsed a year later and they gave me a 30% chance to live. My faith played a great role again. The impact that my faith and story had on several of my medical team was profound. I know at least one came to Christ at my bedside at Emory Winshape Cancer Center. Others were greatly impacted I was told.

Now, I am just a sinner who thanks God for his son whom he had stand in my place. I struggle sometimes to get to Sunday service because I have a Sunday morning lazy gene. My wife, on most Sundays, gets me up and at em to make it to Life Group and worship. My kids (4) tag along and do their thing. I don’t pray as often as I should but I try to shut out the noise enough to stay connected to him. I try to read some of the Bible everyday but sometimes don’t get to it.

As for my life, it’s pretty sweet. A wonderful and beautiful wife who has been by my side through all of the adversity (and I hers) Four awesome kids. The oldest is a chemical & bio-molecular major in her 3rd year at GT but all are very successful in their lives. I have a really good career and it is very possibly going to get even better in 2 months with a great opportunity on the board. The biggest issue I have right now is battling my weight. It does keep me up some nights trying to get motivated to carve out the time to get at it in my basement gym.

Anyway, you were kind of right but also kind of wrong in your stereotype of me.

We do not.

That is my best counter argument, and it is quite strong.
