SAN FRANCISCO — The U.S. Coast Guard has seized 12,000 pounds (5,440 kilograms) of cocaine from a vessel in the Eastern Pacific in one of the largest busts of its kind.
The drugs are valued at $181 million.
About 4,000 pounds of the cocaine was lost when the vessel sank during towing.
KNTV reports Thursday that Chief Warrant Officer Allyson Conroy says the crew also apprehended four suspected smugglers. Names were not released.
The bust was made about 200 miles (320 kilometers) south of Mexico last month. It was not announced until Wednesday.
The drugs were found on a semi-submersible vessel, which is mostly submerged, with just the cockpit and the exhaust pipe visible above water.
Someone's gonna die for this little slip up.

What happens to confiscated drugs? It's obvious that two tons were "sunk" to pay off somebody but what happens with the other 4 tons?

They are locked away in an evidence locker until after trial then disposed of, how that disposal takes place depends on how honest the agency in charge is. The owner if not convicted can reclaim his property providing he bought the proper tax stamps before he was arrested, if he so chooses and is dumb enough to.
