Bruce Dickenson and Rob Hanford are better frontmen than half of those

Halford

Dickenson

I was at this Priest concert, Dallas '86. It was fantastic. So many good looking women

Chicks used to dig metal and rock.

When a Rush song comes on the radio I absolutely can’t wait till it’s over because I pretty much hate it.

Their popular stuff was generally their worst, with a couple notable exceptions

Rush had definite phases to their music. It changed progressively over the years

As a big fan of Pink Floyd, waters isn't that great without David Gilmore.

That said, overall musicality wise, Led Zeppelin was on a different level than almost anyone else.

This. In terms of talent it's absurd. By most rankings you find online from reputable sources. They have a top five frontman, top five guitarist, top three drummer, and top ten bassist. All in one bad. It's freaking incredible how talented they were.

Yes they stole songs. Yes they have issues. But damn...the talent is absolutely mind blowing.

Cream is right there too. Baker, Bruce, and Clapton together was absolute God like. Sad they didn't make more albums together.

Every band does. Zen gets a bad rap for this

Like the guy above said, a lot of people do this. Most of them were direct covers of songs they liked, the rest used only parts. It was Picasso who said, "Good artists borrow, Great artists steal." However, when you look at their original works, those are the more impressive.

I'm not quibbling with the OP's list, but "frontman" connotes a lead singer who can but mostly does not play an instrument during live shows. [Having typed that, how could I possibly argue about Bruce Springsteen being called a "frontman".] With that in mind, here's my list. Having them listed does not mean that I am a big fan of the music the bands make.

1. Freddie Mercury
2. Mick Jagger
3. Robert Plant
4. Steven Tyler
5. Paul Rodgers
6. Alice Cooper
7. Peter Gabriel
8. Bono
9. Ronnie Van Zant
10. Jim Morrison

Honorable Mention: Ronnie James Dio, Peter Wolf (J. Geils Band), Ozzy Osborne, Jon Anderson, Bon Scott,a whole lot more.

I agree that both of your nominees are excellent front men.

Surprised that no one has mentioned Steve Perry from Journey.. great voice, good genre mix, and decent showmanship, i would put him ahead of some i have seen listed.

3 pages and no Bon Scott?

I'd throw in the mix Joe Strummer and Jim Morrison

David Lee Roth should be there somewhere. When you say "front man" I don't think that considers vocal talent as much as it does personality and Diamond Dave had tons of that.
