What makes you think I would waste my time diagnosing your situation?

No one is paranoid. But its wise to be informed as to what is going on right now in the world, and what very well might be coming our way.

All these folks who said a few weeks ago, "its just like the flu" are being proven wrong. The flu doesn't kill 627 people in a single day in a country that's just 18% the size of the US.

In per capita terms, the 4,032 people who have died thus far in Italy would be like 22,000+ Americans dying. Again, this is in just a 4-week span, and every day keeps getting more and more deadly.

Why bring up Italy’s worse case scenario?

I'm not. I'm bringing up Italy's current scenario. This is what is happening right now.

What about here? No one cares about Italy.

If you want to see what is going to be happening in other countries very soon, you might want to care about Italy.

Italy is 2 weeks ahead of most of the other countries in Europe as well as the United States. Currently our trajectory is not quite as bad as Italy's, but it has been worsening in recent days.

18 deaths on Monday
23 deaths on Tuesday (27.7% increase)
41 deaths on Wednesday (60.9% increase)
57 deaths on Thursday (39.0% increase)

Average increase the past three days was 42.5%

If this rate of increase keeps up, it won't be long before we start seeing numbers similar to Italy's current daily totals.

Italy reached its 20th fatality back on 2/28. The US didn't get to that point until 3/8. So again, they are 10 days ahead of us.

I do think we started advocating self-isolation a bit faster. We are better prepared with more hospitals and ventilators than Italy, but this thing is not going to fizzle out in a few days. It's going to keep getting worse. The main question is how much worse and at what pace. If we can flatten the curve, it gives our healthcare system a better chance of not overcrowding.

Likely not. Thank God. But that doesn't mean its not going to get worse.

And for what its worth, there are several other countries that are on a trajectory equal or worse than Italy...

Cumulative Deaths per Day on the 14th day after hitting 10 total deaths:

1,044- Spain (as of today)
463- Italy (back on 3/9)
450- France (as of today)
109- USA (back on 3/17)

Spain is tracking to be 2x as bad as Italy at this point.... but they are 10 days behind them.

The UK is also tracking worse... 177 total deaths, 9 days after hitting their 10th fatality. At that point, Italy had just 107.

The Netherlands is tracking worse... 106 total deaths, 8 days after hitting their 10th fatality. At that point, Italy had just 79.

Again, things can change, but the math seems to be pretty consistent from country-to-country. At least in Western Europe. There is a good chance in 10-14 days, all of these countries are going to be seeing 500 or so fatalities per day. And when you add all of them up, that's a scary scenario for the entire world.

... Certainly relevant enough to discuss on an OT Board. Not sure what your problem is.

Are you hoping it gets worse so you can do an I told you so? It’s what it sounds like to the unparanoid.

Absolutely not. I'm tracking our numbers in hopes it doesn't get as bad. Watching our numbers each day and comparing it to other countries is a fairly decent indication as to what we'll see further down the road and whether or not we'll be able to handle it here.

Again, this is an OT Board. Considering everyone is basically sitting at home doing nothing while the world comes to a complete standstill would IMO make this a relevant topic for the OT Board. Again, not sure what your hillbilly problem is.

We’ve only had 4 deaths but a ton of cases here in IL. Going on stand in place lockdown effective tomorrow. Pritzker announcing at 3pm. Not sure if I have work Monday or not since my job is government & may be considered essential. What a day to take off & be not sure. Already left a v/m for a co-worker to get more info.
