Fayetteville feels pretty damn southern to me. I've been here for three days, and it's very different from Colorado. Some for the good, some not. I guess I can't speak for the Springs, but I'm not an evangelical Christian or in the military, so there wasn't really anything for me there.

Arkansas has Colorado envy.
The new wave hasn't embraced and made Ozark culture their own original thing.
They've imported Colorado culture.

What would that be? Banjo-heavy folk music? Home-made moonshine?
Those things are just hipster now. Colorado has imported Ozark culture.

There is authenticity to Colorado's thing. It's distinctively theirs.
The Fayettechill broseph thing is Patagonia wannabee. It's inauthentic. It's one brand, but its symbolic of more than that.
Arkansas outdoor life isn't authentic. It's envious. It's self-conscious.
It hasn't embraced and grown out from what was there. It tries to be Colorado instead of being itself.

Hmmm. I own exactly one Fayettechill item but I'll bite.
How has Fayettechill co-opted Colorado? Every Fayettechill thing I've ever seen featured kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing and mountain biking and fly fishing. People were doing those things in the Ozarks a helluva long time before Fayettechill ever existed.
Gaston's Resort, built almost entirely around trout fishing, has existed since the 1950s. Folks have been snagging trout with flys around here for a century at least.
The Buffalo National River has been protected, canoed and loved by hippies since the 1960s, and officially by Fedgov since '72.
All of that stuff actually IS authentic Ozark culture, even if it doesn't fit whatever you perceive it "should be".

I can buy bananas, grapes, potatoes, hummus, milk, cheese, bacon, gluten-free muffins, etc at Braums. It's a mini grocery store with half gallons of ice cream and sherbert and frozen yogurt.
You can also get cones, sundaes, burgers, fries and shakes there.
Braums shits all over DQ. Sorry, no offence, its true.

every town makes a list like that at some point. they change it up to keep it fresh lol.
Fayetteville seems pretty isolated and i wouldn't want to live in a college town like that unless I go to or went to the university. i thought Columbia was too oriented around USC and is the biggest city in SC.
i think LIttle Rock is about the only city your average outsider would be open to moving to in Arkansas. part of that is about jobs.
i do think it makes more sense for Arkansas to be in the big 12 than the SEC. it isn't far from the Oklahoma schools.
another thing about Ark is it does not have a state rival. i could not even name another college in Arkansas that isn't a branch of Uni of A.
i've always been surprised the main campus of UA isn't in Little Rock.

NWA isn't what I'd call the south, has a more Midwestern feel. It was a little bit of a culture shock coming from SC to NWA

el oh el. That's why this little metro has added 200k people since I graduated from the university.
I like how much you enjoy Google Street view. I am similarly obsessed with buildings and built environments and do not know why.

This is one of the weirdest things I've seen posted.

Arkansas outdoor life has variety. Delta and timberlands it's mostly hunting and fishing. NW and Ozarks it's that, but also a lot of hiking, caving, kayaking and mountain biking. West central is a combo of those.
In NWA, every last person I know hikes the Goat Trail on the Buffalo, Yellow Rock trail at Devil's Den, and kayaks and canoes. Most of those people also cycle to some degree because it's so damned easy to do around here. Others get into mountain biking, again, because you can mountain bike 10 minutes from your house. We have enough mountain bike amenities that we hosted the IMBA World Summit last year.
Kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing are all things you can do within the city of Fayetteville or within 25 minutes. And everybody does the Buffalo at least once or twice a year.
I know fewer people in NWA who actually hunt or fish than do those other types of outdoor activities. It's a lot easier to get into those other activities around here anyway. To hunt, you need to know somebody with some land.

I have no idea what's really going on in this thread or what it's about exactly but Braum's is great

It's the only place where you can get a German chocolate shake. Better use a spoon though, it's way too robust for a straw.
