The temp agency has to offer insurance. If they work 30 hours, they get insurance through the employer. It's mandated by the ACA. It doesn't matter whether they call you temporary or not.

Assuming they have over 50 employees, that is.

If it's a larger company, that's some shady stuff.

I used to work for them before. Would rather have something more steady, but at least I was working. A lot of employers use them to hire after an introductory period.

I can remember when I worked in manufacturing in a plant back in 2009 my production supervisor would call me to his office, give me a list of names, and tell me to let them know today would be their last day.

Usually it was the day before they would go from temp to actually working for our company per Union guidelines.

Anyway... there is a factory in my town that specializes in hiring low-skill employees, hundreds of them, through a temp service. It's a great opportunity for people with no education to get a steady job. But the practice I described of keeping temps on for 6 , 8, 10 months without hiring them - happens every day. They will tell people that they have the potential of being hired on. Then they will tell the temps, 'we only need 5 permanent employees right now." They receive zero benefits (unless they pay their own insurance - which is an unreasonable expectation for someone making 9.40 an hour.) If there are any issues with these temps, like call-outs, they cut them without any recourse.

Even if every word of that is true, why would one or even dozens of bad players justify shutting down an entire segment of the workforce?

Do you somehow believe that outlawing temps will give them all full time employment?

A couple of things here:

1) I understand that you don't know me. I have no reason to lie. I was commenting from knowledge and experience. I have zero motives. Just chiming in on another's thread.

2) No where did I say or suggest that temp agencies are all corrupt and need to be shut down. If you can find that - please point it out to me.

Oh, and 3) shut the hell up

Re-read thread title and your comments, while perhaps not intended it certainly can percieved as your stance.

Yeah they did that back in the 60's also. Up to the employer to pay the fee, up to employee to accept the salary.

It is a business, do you think Walmart, Sacred Heart Hospital, the Advocate or any other business does not need to make a profit

I worked for one in college and it was great at getting me weekend and holiday jobs. It was a huge help with my college expenses.
