We took a boat ride up Behm canal and saw New Eddystone Rock (When Cpt. Vancouver first happened upon this island in the fog, he believed he was seeing an approaching warship and ordered his men to get ready to rumble.) and Rudyerd Bay, which just took my breath away. Stunning stuff.
ETA: But Glacier Bay was the highlight of the trip for me. Magnificent.

I have had a very similar experience. It's not bad, if you are going there to enjoy nature (which is, in essence, stepping back in time).

Ignoring your unreasonable fear of stepping back in time, I have to disagree. The NW quadrant of Arkansas for me is one of the more beautiful parts of the country. Great views, absolutely beautiful lakes. Lake Dardanelle, Eufala, Lake Catherine - I skied on all of them as a kid and there's no comparison to anything east of the Mississippi. Beautiful lakes.

I actually agree with you Kaiser. Texas is a great state. I was born there but grew up in Florida. I love Florida but I have always seen myself going back to Texas someday. Plus I've always been a die hard Cowboys fan. Texans got it good.

I can't say that I really hate any state in the south. I do despise Illinois and California. And that is largely based on their culture.

I've been to all 50 of them and love them all.
I choose to live in Texas, not so much for the landscape, but for the state of mind. There is a feeling that you control your own destiny in Texas. There is a proud feeling that you are a Texan and everyone is welcome to become one.
