That series was the definition of writing yourself into a corner.

Just started The Screwtape Letters today... Great Expectations next I've been putting it off for a long time. I'd be in for a guy's book club as long as it doesn't have to do with me reading God hating stuff... #Christian

WOT is the GOAT. I've wasted weeks or months reading and rereading those books. The story is pretty much secondary to the world he created.

A few in my teens, yes.
I'm not taking away from the excellence of the series. I apologize. It just seemed to be dragging out a bit when I stopped reading them.
ETA: let me rephrase. I read 3-4 in HS then lost interest because girls and sports. Then when I got into reading again, I saw he still wasn't finished, picked up the back of a book and realized that the plot didn't seem that different or moved along from when I was reading. And Jordan was dead as well. So it's just like, my uninformed opinion man.

There are 3 or 4 in the middle that are a little slow, it doesn't seem as a bad without having to wait for the next one to be released. But they are all pretty necessary for what is coming I think.

i hear that. and i should say i had just finished ASoIaF I-V and Kingkiller Chronicles I-II at the time. I might have been worn out on the idea of fantasy.
i.e. I just read about 20 spy novels since March this year and i'm pretty burned out on those as well.

I can see where you are coming from. i started reading WOT when i was in 7th grade and there were only four books released. 20+ years later the series was finally finished. I ended up having to reread the entire series every time a new book was released just to refresh my memory on the story line.
As far as the series goes, the world that Robert Jordan creates makes the Lord of the Rings look like a pop up book. Would highly recommend

Infinite Jest - best contemporary American novel evvvvver.
Monkey Wrench Gang - sexual tension, insane chase scenes, lots of action, great message, cool ending. Book that initiated the environmental movement.
Confederacy of Dunces - anti fascism message in a hilarious format.
Brave New World - If every man had more John The Savage in him we'd be able to overcome the evil that is upon us.
Notes From Underground - Most powerful short novel ever written. Power. This book is pure power and a great introduction to Dostoevsky.

It is crazy how in depth he went, and how much he had thought out that was never actually put into print.
When they walk through the pillars and get the visions of the past and the future is one of my favorite parts of the whole series.

Only thing that got under my skin was the change in authors. Once RJ died and Sanderson took over, he completely missed on the personalities of the characters, and his writing style was not as detail oriented. But, then again how do you follow RJ and there not be a drop off.

When did Sanderson take over? Around 10 or so? I read the first 3-4 and don't even remember a ton of it to be honest.

Ya some people hated RJ, the but I'll give Sanderson somewhat of a pass because there was just so much he had to wrap up. The last book had such a fast pace. I started to reread, but just didn't have the time. It is like a 10,000 page undertaking...

I think he did the last three. The three books right before that are what everyone considered slow and the weren't the same quality Books 3 to 7 or 8 are probably my favorite parts. The last three aren't bad, just different.

So do these books come with a night light?
Or a themed coloring book?

You're getting good at this.

I picked up Jurassic Park the other day again... Read it and Of Mice and Men at least 5 times apiece... It's a page turner.

I read The Traveler's Gift last week. It was pretty good.
