I just got in to this thread so I don't know if it's been mentioned or not but these two words simply do not go together. I would've beat her arse solely based on the fact that she was dumb enough to pay for for a cat.

If/when she's officially your ex, we're going to need to see some pics so we can figured out her crazy to hot ratio...for scientific purposes 
But yeah, she sounds borderline batshit crazy. I would say what you did was a dick move, but when dealing with crazy you throw out the rulebook. And frick cats (except for grumpy cat)

Go cat man. You can leave them for days, minimum maintenance, little chance of accidents, etc.
