Do you think a program of some sort should be chartered to help raise awareness in "at risk" communities about career choices and life decisions?
i don't think it would matter to be honest. High school was crazy easy for me in general, I knew a few black guys that were a year older than me that graduated 2 or 3 years behind me that could have played college ball but gave zero fricks about school. They couldn't play school sports due to grades and again, they gave zero fricks.
I don't think that awareness will help in general, sure it might hit a few here or there.
I do think that high schools should do a better job of preparing kids for the future and stop sugar coating shite for them. If a kid is dumb, stop trying to teach them stuff they won't use going forward if they don't want to learn it, instead, allow them to take some tech classes to teach them skills. The world needs people to get their hands dirty just as much as the world needs doctors and lawyers.
Cluster schools together and install a tech school that kids can opt for instead of high school to teach them trade skills that they can use. Welding, masonry, concrete, carpentry are all trades that the world needs. allow these kids to learn these under the supervision of people looking out for their best interests.
I also think that there should be a required course in high school to teach kids real world skills. Basic accounting/bookkeeping, budgeting, time management, etc.

I'm going to disagree with my broesphus TBird, and say the objectiveness of the article is not racist. Carrying out the thoughts of the article to the extreme can be very very racist with bad implications. If we say "oh eff it, it failed, let's just ignore racism and repeal all laws regarding race and whatever" the yeah it's pretty darn racist.
In a lot of anecdotal ways the race "experiment" has worked. We have several mixed marriages in this nation , my son's best friend is black ( I did not grow up with a single black kid in my school,) we have black people running as republicans, we have our first minority President, and a plethora of other things that make it seem that we've taken great strides.
We also have anecdotal incidents to the contrary. Ferguson, SC police shooting, Donald Sterling, and SCRooster prove we still have a long way to go.
The truth is that we are all just a bunch of broken people trying to get through this life. A racist a-hole is just going to be a racist a-hole and we're going to have to survive that as a society. Some people are going to come out of a racist upbringing come above it and see that anybody that looks different is just another human. Black kids growing up in the ghetto are going to rise above the poverty ceiling and make something more of themselves. Some are going to stay in the cycle.
The point is we've tried to blend the two and had varying results. I would disagree that the experiment "failed" but would submit that we've learned that a generation can change a lot of things, but also a generation can carry on hate as well from both sides.
The hope ( and what I pray is true) is that my kids don't hear language or indifference disparaging minorities come out of my mouth. My dad heard the N word from his family growing up on the reg, but I never heard it from him once say that. I saw some actions from him depicting that he judged people on their skin color, but not overtly. I hope my kids never see that from me. My hope is that my grandkids have to hear that word from a history book and have to ask me what racism was like. Probably lofty dreams, but worth a shot.

Other races weren't enslaved, oppressed for a 100 years after slavery ended, killed for trying knowing how to read, humiliated, disenfranchised and etc. Blacks have had it far worse than any race in this country. Now, it doesn't excuse any acts of violence and/or thug behavior, but to compare blacks to other minorities is frocking laughable
. A lot of people in America feel this way, right or wrong, especially the point about other ethnic groups succeeding in the same circumstances with even less of a population advantage.

Honest question, how long is slavery a legit excuse? It has been at least 5 or 6 generations passed at this point if not more yet it is still brought up like it people today had parents that were slaves.
Every race and every culture in the history of the world has been and had slaves yet it isn't an excuse for anyone.
Yes, civil rights movements are much more relevant but still not an excuse for today's newest generations.

151 years since emancipation.
Thats a hundred years.
Plus 51 more years.

You're just sensationalizing what I say. Nobody is gonna say what they really think in this thread without getting terminated by a mod. But I feel I presented my outlook on it in a civil manner knowing people like you would blow it out of proportion and mold it into an opinion that it's not.

How will it be everlasting? 50 years removed from the civil rights movements, in another 25 years there will barely be anyone alive that lived through the civil rights movement white or black.

To quote somebody from the OTL...
The Jews, Irish, Scots, Italians, Chinese and others have all been enslaved and oppressed but somehow managed to get their shite together and not blame the descendants living today for something somebody did 50+ years ago.

Neither were "whites" and neither of us will be the last. It is time for excuses to stop and move forward instead of dwelling on the past.
No one is owed shite in this world, go out and work for it. Don't make excuses why it can't be done. The one job that I really wanted when I left school, I was the most qualified for. I got along with the interviewer enough for him to call me off the record that night to tell me not to expect to be hired because they were looking for a minority hire (female or not white). I moved on and took another job and have worked my arse off since, no excuses.

Ummm.... In America? No. Everywhere else? Yes. But I think you were going for a catch all gotcha and not an honest discussion. Jews and Scots endured centuries of oppression after their freedom.
Regarding the communities, I'm assuming your talking about Tulsa. And yes that was a horrible travesty. I hope the people that committed that are in a special place. But again, your posts implied that I should feel guilty about something neither I nor my ancestors were not involved in.

Monty,
What Germany did to the Jews was far worse than anything that happenned to blacks in America, institutionally. That was about 85 years ago. Most of the offspring of the survivors are doing quite well.
Let me also point out that most white people in America do not descend from slave owners, nor any kind of family wealth. Most white people in America come from ancestors who didnt get here until after the Civil War.

They don’t understand that white people aren’t out to get black people; they are just exhausted with them. They are exhausted by the social pathologies, the violence, the endless complaints, the blind racial solidarity, the bottomless pit of grievances, the excuses, the reflexive animosity. The elites explain everything with “racism,” and refuse to believe that white frustration could soon reach the boiling point.
This part of the article states what a lot of people really feel. I dgaf what color a person is, I just want them to contribute to society, it took me many years of being a parasite myself to learn this and I have lived in the most racist societies in the world and I harbor no ill will toward other races. I am tired of having to hear and watch people play the race card for everything, enough already. I wish I knew what the solution is but I don't, I do believe that something is going to give I just don't know what that's going to entail.
