Big Cedar is without a doubt the best resort in the entire Midwest.

We've been going for years, but I've missed going the past couple of times my family went. Can't wait to get back. I never want to go anywhere else on vacation, any season. It's a great place to spend Thanksgiving or Christmas with family - such a beautiful time of year up there.

We have a condo and boat on Indian Point, but we like to spend a week at Big Cedar each May just before Memorial Day.

Fewer people, it's already warm, and you still get seasonal deals on rooms or cabins. We just take the boat over to Big Cedar, dock it at their marina, and relax.

Big Cedar just did an extensive renovation to Devil's Pool, FYI....

Florentinas is not bad for Italian. We lived in Fayetteville AR for a while, and would hit Branson 2-3 times a year. Tourist trap first few times, then we figured out the way to handle Branson without getting gouged and still have fun.

What are ya nuts? We had pancakes for breakfast. I want to go somewhere I can get a shot and a beer, and a steak, maybe. No more frickin' pancakes, c'mon man. C'mon man! Okay here's an idea. We'll stop outside of Brainerd. I know a place there we can get laid. What do ya think?

Love that restaurant. They used to have the best London Broil ever.

There was another restaurant there years ago that had been renovated because it was hit by a tornado. It was by itself up the side of a mountain. I don't know if it was on Big Cedar property or not, but it was close. I can't remember the name of it, but it was a beautiful restaurant with a large patio & fireplaces & fire pits. I remember having really good Italian food there, but I think it had other things, as well. I'm not sure if it's there anymore.

We used to take the boat and fish Table Rock Lake during the summer, but my favorite time to go is in the Fall & Winter. My parents just got back from BC a week ago. They stayed in the main lodge, but when the whole family goes, we get a cabin. We're planning on resuming spending our family vacations there over Thanksgiving since my parents only live a couple of hours from there, now.

It's truly a perfect place to me. Besides being incredibly beautiful, the staff is just awesome. Once, my young nephew left his favorite stuffed animal in the bed, and it inadvertently got taken with the sheets to the laundry when housekeeping came to clean the cabin. We realized what happened when we got back that evening, so we let housekeeping know about it. They found it and returned it to the cabin before my nephew went to sleep that night. If I didn't have to work, I'd live there. Hell, I'd be happy to work there doing pretty much anything from working in the gift shop to baking the Cedar tree shaped cookies left on the pillows every night.

go out of your way a bit and check out Lambert's in Ozark, MO (about 30-35 min).

I've eaten at Lambert's several times. I love it! The one in MO is definitely much better than the one in Mobile.

Lots of chains up here water down our restaurant market pretty good. Places I like to go are:

- Big Cedar's Devil's Pool: love their chicken livers & gravy for lunch and the view is great.

- Cantina Laredo is a chain but it's good food and a great location.

- Black Oak Grill is at the Landing (Belk's end) and they have a good menu.

- Outback is not affiliated with the national chain at all. The Woods' have owned that name and their menu forever and Outback's lawyers haven't been successful in getting it away from them.

- Dana's BBQ in Branson West and on 165. Good place for burgers.

- Altenhof Inn on Indian Point (past SDC) has some very good specialty pizzas.

- White River Fish House, Bass Pro's restaurant on Taney Como. Good menu

- Waxy O'Sheas: eat some Scotch Eggs with you beer.

- Chateau on the Lake: go eat in their bar and take in the view.

- Old Chicago, I list it only because of it's broad selection of draft beer on tap.

Regarding Billy Gail's, I've driven past that place for over 15 years and have never stopped. Apparently, I've been missing one of the best meals around. They're small parking lot fills up so fast.

Stuttgart,

So you're meaning to tell me that you live in Branson and drive by Billy Gails but have never once stopped there to eat.

I highly recommend you do so as soon as possible. After you eat their "Camp" or try one of their pancakes, you'll quickly place Billy Gails at the top of your list.

I'm disappointed in you, Stutt.

Yes, driven by for years and never stopped. I have to go by there on the way to my in-laws place in Branson West. Hard to tell my m-in-l that I'm late to eat with them because I stopped to eat at Billy Gails.

Great looking place and the parking lot is always full. Yogi Berra would say no one goes there anymore because it's too crowded.

But, I bet it's one of those places where if you moved it into a bigger location with more parking, it wouldn't be as good. I bet if it moved across the street where that Mexican place use to be, it wouldn't be the same.

I'll surprise my wife with a breakfast trip there soon. Then I can come back and tell you and Latarian how right you were. That's a win-win right there.

You go to Indian Point, have you ever been to Altenhof Inn? That Bavarian Pizza is delicious. I was curious about the brats and kraut on a pizza and it tasted great.

My wife and I have a condo at VIP on Indian Point. Yes, we've been to Altenhof Inn. In my opinion, the very best thing at Altenhof Inn is the view. The food is alright, the beer selection is pretty good, the old woman who owns the place is cute as a button, but the view is incredible.

Cantina Laredo sits on the square where a multi-million dollar fire and water show occurs every hour on the hour. If the temperature is nice, I highly suggest that you sit outside. The view is awesome and you'll have the perfect seat for the fire and water show.

bruh laredo was legit as hell.

Between the food and the water/fire show it was badass. Me and my girl ate there this past Saturday night. It felt really nice outside so we decided to sit out on the deck to watch the water/fire show. We had pretty much perfect seats to watch the show. I didn't realize they put on a show every 30 minutes to music. So the increase in water blasts and fire came as a surprise. Could feel the heat from the fire from where we were sitting.

Here's some pics I took of the show

I made a video of the fountain but it was blocked in this country due to a copyright issue LINK

here's a different video I found of the fountains LINK

Glad you enjoyed your time in Branson and took my Cantina Laredo dinner suggestion!

Did you eat at Billy Gails?

If you ever come back to Branson and need more advice, hit me up. I truly believe I'm better than most anyone at directing people to the best places in Branson not located on the God awful Hwy 76 strip.

No joke, I could plan a Branson vacation for you and your girl that would be so nice that you'd want to come here every year to vacation, whether it be for a long weekend or an entire week. The Branson area is incredibly underrated due to the overly touristy Hwy 76 Branson strip. You could have an amazingly fun and romantic time without ever once driving on the Branson strip.

For breakfast, nothing beats Billy Gails.

Couldn't agree more. It was damn good. It was like cracker barrel on steroids

We got there on Saturday morning at about 10:30 and it was gonna be a 40 minute wait. My girl was starving and didn't want to wait that long so we went down the road a little ways and ate brunch at a hotel called Bradford Inn. Their brunch/lunch was really good.

We went back to Billy Gails about 9:00 Sunday morning and only had to wait 10-15 minutes.

I got 'The Camp' like you suggested, along with the 'French Cakes'. Which were pancakes made like french toast. Both were really, really good and I didn't see either on the menu. Their coffee impressed me as well. I usually don't like restaurants coffee but my girl got some and I tried hers. After that I had to get some of my own. She got the stuffed french toast which she really liked.

Looked like it was Billy Gails son who runs the place now. Pretty sure it was him running the cash register, seating people, and helping bus tables while we were there. Overheard one of the waitresses talking to him and say his mom wanted him to do something for the restaurant.

One side note for others that might eat there is that they don't take credit or debit cards, only cash or checks. That surprised me with the amount of traffic they get through there. Made me wonder what they do for people that want to pay but don't have cash or check. I didn't see an ATM nearby...

Here's a couple pictures of what we had to eat and inside Billy's

Will definitely try to do that next time we go up there. I'm all about trying to find the gems in an area that other tourists don't flock to.

Thanks for all the info

Yeah, Gail doesn't run the cash register anymore. However, she is the old woman who walks around and asks you how your meal is in a very Wisconsin Swede accent. She says "doncha know" a lot.

Very nice lady.
