IMO yes it does tarnish the "playoff," and hopefully it speeds up the move to 8 teams.

The 5 major conference champions.

The 3 next highest ranked teams.

If a non-major conference team is ranked above a conference champion, that team automatically gets one of the 3 at-large bids.

As for TCU this year, they should have never been #3. That's the only real travesty here. If any team from the Big Bevo has a complaint it's Baylor. They got hung out by the committee, by the AP, by the coaches, and by their own conference brass.
i'm just waiting for all crap to break out

tOSU losing (possible with new QB)
Oregon losing (possible, 'Zona already beat them)
FSU losing (possible, Ga Tech's option)
Baylor losing (possible, K-State)

'Bama losing (the most unlikely thing on this list)

I will be legitimately shocked if Missouri beats aTm. I will be mildly surprised if Missouri keeps it within 10 against aTm.

Except for a few guys, this Missouri team appears to have given up (including Haith).

this is one of the most overused straw man argument in all of sports.

sure, you don't want to be in the position for the officials to decide it, like they just did. But, that doesn't excuse the terrible officiating.

Yep. Bull shite call. Looked like he walked too

he walked, and it should have been a offensive push off. he nearly extended his arm fully to "create space."

gotta love the home court advantage blue bloods get. that was atrocious

Missouri has had 19 ft

How many have we had?

16 FTA for Arky

19 for Missouri

12 PF for Arky

11 for Missouri

There have been bad calls, but hardly extreme home cooking.
3 steps? yep. Elbow? nope.

He did use the ball on the dude's face though

To say that these things are completely unimportant is naive. While these "fun" off-season rankings may not be as important as the rankings after a few weeks of football, they still shape and influence the perception of teams. With the "playoff" spots being decided by a committee, untied to any actual formula, these perceptions are more important than they have been in previous years.

Say an un-ranked team, Ole Miss, goes 11-1 and Michigan State goes 11-1. Of course M-State will get in because of previous perceptions.

So, while often things work themselves out on the field. There are times where these "meaningless" rankings actually matter.

KU

goodness gracious, at least get it right. if it's not "the school over there" it's "kU."

that's with a lowercase "k" and a capital "U." we don't ever give enough respect to the jayhawkers to capitalize the "k."

i tell you, some people :banghead:
phog allen level homecooking tonight. w/e you have to expect it
No worries Florida. The officials will make sure you cover the 12. Getting a bit absurd

Why are you asking me? I have zero fricks to give about it.

No serious discussion from me on subjects I don't know about.

I am interested in what phognet has to say about this matter though.

hold please

Lol I'm not asking you what you think, I was summarizing most Missouri fan's position.

quote:

This is a long thread so there's no way I'm reading all the quibbling back and forth but would this be a good summary.

Mizz fans: nothing to see here
Non-mizz fans: Mizz getting death penalty and you can't spell Unlikely Criminals wihtout UM

Is that about right?

Close. The Missouri fans have said that if anyone in the Athletic Department knew they should be fired. If they knew they should have reported it. The football players should be prosecuted if that is still possible. However, the OTL report doesn't support that school officials knew about it. So, what exactly should the Athletic Department have done?
I will be mildly surprised if Missouri finishes in the top five of the conference. Brown and Clarkson could easily be in the draft, and that alone should be good enough for them to finish in the top four. But Haith is really not a good coach.
I know my interest has started to wane. I don't like the direction the game is moving in with the new officiating changes. I don't like the 1 and dones. I don't like so many transfers everywhere.

I also know a big part of it for me is that Missouri doesn't have it's traditional basketball rivals. I just don't get nearly as excited for UF, Arky, Kentucky, Ole Miss as I did for kU, I-State, Okie Lite, K-Stat, Texas, etc.

Even in bad years, Missouri and those schools had so much history that the games were entertaining and fun.

I haven't felt that way about football because the competition in the SEC is just a lot better. But, when you go from better competition to worse competition (generally speaking) and lose the rivalries, I just don't care too much.
quote:

It's a high school offense

It will never be successful in the SEC

That is a pretty accurate statement. I think it, just like any other offense can succeed at the college or pro level if you have the right skills players and a great OL.

For four years we played against almost the exact same offense in high school, only difference was that the Brookfield went under center a bit more than Auburn does (but most of it was from the gun).

It's not revolutionary, it is quirky. That takes a bit of time to figure out. Give DC's a summer or two to look at it and it will come back down to earth.

Welcome to the world of being a Mizzou fan. These way too early pre-season rankings are all about program perceptions. That's why teams like Texas and Notre Dame are always in it even if they're sucking arse and a team like Mizzou is never in it regardless of how deserving. Hoping with time, being in the SEC will change those perceptions.

Missouri has been a better program than aTm for a decade now, but they get the love and Missouri doesn't. It could easily take at least 10 years of solid results in the SEC before Missouri gets any love.
that's why you don't play prevent defense...
Lol sure fire INT if the first guy doesn't bat it away
