re: Work Em Silly Gators Sign from 97 Florida Game
Posted by nicklsu on 6/24/25 at 9:40 am to TigerLunatik
So I was part of the initial duo that stole the sign. The one who did the actual grab is JPinLondon on here. We saw the sign and both of us said we had to do something about it. So we walked around the concourse from the student section undetected to get behind them without being noticed. Once we did so, he bolted down the stairs to grab the sign and yelled at me to provide cover to slow the guys down. I tried my best to block them and allow John to get back to the student section where the sign was torn to shreds. Someone got him a section of the sign later and he still has it to this day. I will try to conntact him and see if he can log on and provide his input. The rest of the day as you remember was spectacular. '
On a side note, we spent the majority of the day between the indian mounds frying gator bites and harassing all the UF fans driving by. It was an epic day.

People like to make fun of this banjo-picking kid from Deliverance, but, I'd like to ask those folks -- do you play the Banjo? No? Then shut the heck up. You don't play ANY musical instrument, so, be quiet.
He didn't know how to play the banjo either. I'd have to look it up, but there was actually a person behind him playing "through" him. If you look at the hands playing, they are of a much older person.
What kind of manufacturing are you referring? I am a mechanical engineer and have worked in food, household cleaner, hand tool and currently heavy equipment manufacturing facilities for the past 25 years. Most of the time is pretty low stress, with good pay. Even the technicians know their jobs are pretty easy, especially as advancements in technology have made the equipment much more capable and user friendly.
re: US capital where would you move it?
Posted by nicklsu on 3/10/25 at 9:36 am to turnpiketiger
I'd say East St. Louis. Centrally located, on a navigable river. Wipe all of current East STL down, relocate the people and give them jobs with the government or some restitution. Establish a full congressional developement zone along the river. Scott AFB just down the road for protection, Plenty of land on ILL side of river for all the support departments.

actually not all that uncommon. Can be caused by stress, vitiligo, age, or some other conditions. We have an italian greyhound who was mostly white except for a brown head, and spot on his rear when we got him at 7 months. 4 years later, he is 98% white.

The flatter the tire, the worse you’re off. You want less surface on the snow, not more. Skinnier the tire, easier you maneuver
Yeah, having lived in snow country most of my adult life, you sir are, frankly, full of it.
See, the problem in snow isn't starting to move, it's slowing down and stopping. These two things are best accomplished by have maximum surface area in contact with the snow/road.
Scientifically speaking, the equation is this: d = (v²)/(2µg) where d: is the stopping distance
v: is the initial velocity of the car
µ: is the coefficient of friction between the tire and road surface
g: is the acceleration due to gravity.
Since yoy can't change anything in the equation but V, you want µ to be as large as possible. This is best accomplished with a wide tire.
I must agree with you on this one. Been living in snowy areas (MO, AR, OH) for the past 20 years and always air my tires down when snow is predicted. Was taught this by lifelong northerners and its been very helpful. Had 12 inches a few weeks ago and I did just fine with about 20-22 lbs in the tires (Mazda CX-9). Drove from Columbus to Cincinnati last night in snow squalls and about 1 inch on the interstate and didn't lose traction at all. Only issue is seeing that damn annoying low pressure light on my dash.
Own a CX-9 now, and my last car was a CX-5. Previous vehicle was a Mazda 6, so somewhat of a Mazda fan. All have had spectacular track records in terms of maintenance and reliability. Nothing to speak of to be honest in probably 250K miles between the three vehicles. Make sure you get the turbo 2.5 engine or you may be a little unsatisfied with the acceleration and noise.
You may not like the infotainment system at first as its not touchscreen unless you are parked, but using the control knob becomes second nature after a week or so. I actually like it better than the touchscreen now. The reason its controlled with a knob is that the screens location on the dash is higher and farther away than normal screens. This makes it easier to see when looking at directions, etc. You do not have to look down and take your eyes off the road.

I fell from a sitting position and landed on my right shoulder. I dislocated it, tore the tendon completely off, and tore the biceps muscle. Had the surgery. Never felt any pain. Stopped medication 2nd day. Continued to work without time off working a computer, using my left hand. Surgery didn't take. Couldn't lift my arm above my head. Had reverse shoulder surgery. Fractured scapula while doing therapy. All in all, I was in a sling for about 16 weeks over a year period. Everything works, but my right arm gets fatigued really fast. Good luck. Every case is different.
Sounds like you did not follow the prescription for recovery unfortunately. Immobilization is the ultimate key to having it heal correctly. You probably thought that since you COULD work, that you SHOULD. I took advantage and did not work for 2-3 weeks. Then only for a few hours at a time at my computer with only my left hand. I did not start using a mouse on my right hand for at least 6 weeks.

Like everyone said, keep ahead of the pain with meds. I also had one of the ice machines that circulated ice cold water around the shoulder. It was a game changer. Get a good recliner to sleep in. It will take a few days to get used to it. I don't think I really slept for 48-72 hours after surgery. A secondary sling for taking showers is a must. Don't try to anything else.
As for the rehab, stick to it religiously. Don't try to overdo it, but keep a tight schedule and make sure you do everything they say. I had two tears (supraspinatus, and subscapularis), as well as a bicep tear, so quite a bit of work. I had the work done on 8/30/2022, and was playing golf by late February 2023 thanks to the rehab. Of course it tooka while to build the atrophied strength back, but I have not issues at all now.

re: Anybody remember Otto Warmbier being detained in North Korea?

I live in the same town as the Warmbiers and know the family casually. They are good people and Otto was a smart kid. I doubt he would try to steal a poster in the middle of the night. My guess is that someone else took it, and they took advantage of some US citizens being onsite to set them up. Definitely did not deserve the treatment he experienced.

I work in the town next to Lawrenceburg. Can confirm it’s pronounced Kuh-****. His dad is the head coach as well
Many early mornings spent waiting outside of Maison Blanche waiting for the ticket office to open to get concert tickets. Yes, I am dating myself with that one. Coincidentally, I worked at Celebration Station in the early 90’s and we always saw a surge in teen customers on Fri/Sat nights when Cortana closed.

I was thinking of parking on Stadium as well. ANyone else know if we can park there?
