I've never been one to say that. I know "Christians" who are morally inept at a far worse level than some atheists.

This country is going to shite because morality in general has been declining, and people don't value the traditional family unit and hard work that this country always prided itself on.

We've become a lazy, entitled society and that leads to gluttony and decadence.

There's no way of ever knowing if it did or not. And even if it did, it was far different from the modern day Southern Baptist version of morality. The world's first religions didn't deal with "morality" in that sense.

This is just stupid. 50 years ago we had people legally allowed to be treated as second class citizens. 15 years ago a kid was tortured and murdered for being gay. We are becoming a more tolerant and open society, and it isn't a religious thing.

We have? Because we are working more hours, and taking less vacation than we ever have.

This is true. I'm technically Southern Baptist because my parents are and I always went to church with them so I claim the title.

I don't adhere to all of the teachings of any one denomination because I think each one is flawed in a way such that people who created it did so in order to justify their misgivings. I interpret Biblical teachings in my own way (FYI I haven't been to a church service in 7 years). I read Scripture, I pray in my own way, and I stick to my values as best as I can.

I absolutely hate the Left and the liberal media, but I hate this rhetoric just as much. It's just stupid and untrue.
TeLeFaWx, please turn in your conservative card with the little elephant. This will not do.

Same here. I was raised Catholic but I'm not a practicing one anymore. I don't even necessarily consider myself Christian per se, but I believe in God and treating all others with respect. I don't feel the need to pigeon hole myself into one religion or denomination, and I don't need mass or a service, either.

I'm talking more along the lines of personal ethics and the family unit. Gay people are not destroying the country.

We no longer value the family unit like we used to. This is seen with the ever increasing rate of divorce and single parents. We have become an extremely selfish society. People don't value hard honest work they used to, people don't value honesty period. A man's word used to be his bond..now is not the case.

America is being destroyed by lack of responsibility I guess is a better way to put it. For a free nation to be strong, a strong sense of responsibility for one's choices must be present. Losing that is what is destroying America..for when people vote for themselves in order to get policy to better their own interests, rather than for the better of the nation, the Republic as we know it will collapse.

Because the half of us in this country like me and you have to work double to carry the weight of that half that doesn't do shite.

Teen pregnancy and STD rates have dropped since the 80's as well. If we would focus on educating our children instead of having pissing contest about who is right or wrong about religion, we'd be better of as a country and society.

I vote Republican, but that doesn't necessarily make me a conservative. I have some libertarian and populist/paternalism beliefs as well.

I am all for having the strongest military in the world. I don't want anyone to be close to us. But when you spend more on your defense than the next 15 on the list combined, it might be time to cut back some of that spending and put it into education, our space exploration programs and the foster care system.

Speak for yourself. I spent two decades working non-stop so that I can now spend ten weeks a year lounging in top hotels and eating in Michelin rated restaurants.

I'm all aboard that gluttony and decadence train.

Correct. Violent crimes have dropped since the 80s/90s as well.

That's largely due to medical advances and learning what you're up against. The HIV epidemic in the 80s was not largely due to vast amounts of unprotected sex.

It was blood plasma donor centers getting blood from prison inmates and illegal immigrants that cause that. I know this because my grandfather owned 10 of those centers, 3 by prisons and 7 in Texas by the border. My dad in college worked at one in El Paso, and then in Douglas, Az. They were shutdown by the FDA after the HIV epidemic hit and they learned it was largely from these centers who, at the time, had no clue about HIV or how it was spread. An estimated 80,000 people were infected by it just from my Grandfather's plasma centers alone.

It's not a widely known scandal.. Gov't covered up a lot of it at the time and let people believe it was from having unprotected sex.

As far as pregnancy, do those statistics include ones who get abortions today? Plus the widespread availability of birth control contributes largely.

True. I think the availability to birth control has a lot more to do with it than abortions.

You earned it though. Completely different.

I'm speaking of the ones who feel entitled to this lifestyle, but don't want to work. That is something that is ruining our country, especially when Gov't policy incentivizes the poorer classes to have more kids, mostly due to welfare programs.

The poor and lazy are out reproducing the productive at an alarming rate.

Some people believe they are.

I think this is really overstated. Corporations for the most part run this country, and they have for about 100 years. Special interests and lobbies protect people with money. I'm all for capitalism which is why I don't necessarily have a problem with any of that at all, but corporatism is self serving in its own way, and they sway the votes and right the legislation for the most part, not individuals that want a welfare check. Like I get there is some massive fear that those cashing unemployment checks are taking everyone down with them, but I just don't see that. Lazy and stupid will always be lazy and stupid. That's never stopped happening.

They are. I'm all for those on government assistance having to be on birth control to receive it. I'm talking long term birth control like Mirena, and I would be perfectly fine with tax dollars providing access to free vasectomies for those under the poverty line.

The problem though is that there are way more lazy and stupid now than ever. It will reach a point, as the lazy and stupid keep reproducing faster and getting welfare money to pay for it, that Corporate America and it's taxpaying employees will no longer be able to afford to foot the bill.

We'll keep borrowing money until the entire system comes down...then the free rides end abruptly and the lazy and stupid either start working to scrape by, or they go to stealing and get shot. If the path we are on is not corrected, the economic fallout will not be pretty, and neither will the subsequent civil unrest between the producers and the takers. Class warfare at its finest
