I am forged in the fire of the MIT Model Railroad Club in the Gosper & Greenblatt Era. When the nerds were VERY social and the computers of that era were the media. If you were high on the "Social Media" of the era odds were near 100% your email ended in .edu, not some large business interest who only wants to mine your data and not pay you a cent.
Old social media was about using the media to do things in real life, not cocoon behind pixels so to me what folks today view one way, I view the opposite
"Social Media" to the masses = Anti Social Media to old farts like me.
If you ever read Fahrenheit 451, think of me as the old dude in the wilds actually reading books and not burning them.

The rule makes sense. It’s good to have some sort of stipulation that discourages people from contacting each other outside of the message board. That said, I don’t know how seriously that’s taken. I clicked on the link and read through some of the other rules, and as you can see on any given day on the Rant, just about all of them are repeatedly broken. Personally, I don’t see any issue with posting an invite to a Discord channel on OT. There’s a pretty small group of regular posters on this part of the website that I wouldn’t mind chatting with on Discord. Of course, that’s up to people here. If only a few are interested and people would rather post here instead then I see no need to make one.
