I've slacked off some but haven't quit yet. I plan to go cold turkey starting this Sunday. As for as weight problem, I was the exact opposite, instead of gaining weight, I lost it. When I was at my worst I weighed between 135 to 140 and looked like a meth head at 6'2". When I did stop for a while I gained up to 205 and now back down to 190 cause of drinking. This Sunday, I'm definitely quitting. Good luck to everyone.

Update: I’ve lost 4 lbs. so far this week. Got up early 3 times and ran once and did an outdoor workout class twice. Ate shitty on Wednesday but made up for it yesterday. 3 drinks last night after a long workday. 3 left on quota for the weekend.

When I go on a heavy drinking binge, I tend to black out. Cant remember "what happened" the next day
As some would say, I lose time.
Im trying not to do that anymore.

I have been there a time or two myself. Like you I'm not trying to stop entirely, but I am trying to make it a reasonable thing. If I can, great, if I can't then its time to cut it out of my life entirely.

I am a very good casual drinker. Till I'm not. There lies the issue.
I never thought I would lose track of time after drinking but it has happened a few times. Scary thing. No way I could function either. I now limit things so it doesnt happen again...

Admittedly, I waste too much time in my work day(mostly on this site). I don't drink, smoke, dip or vape. I am not overweight but I think complacency at my job is my big addiction.

The drinking pledge is going better then I thought it would to be honest. I won't deny there are times on my days off from drinking where I really would have liked to pour three fingers of bourbon and relax but I've managed to resist so far.
I've also manged to keep my drinking down when I do drink. No more then six units at a time. That one has also been tough. I can easily dispose of a 12 pack or a bottle of bourbon. Hanging in there though. In a week or two I might go for two days off in a row between drinking. Going to try and wean myself down to maybe drinking once or twice a week.
Weight wise I've been watching my portions, going for walks, and doing some weight lifting. I weighed 274 this morning, the first time since I started the diet that I was under 275 which is nice. I think losing weight, and keeping it off, is going to be harder then reducing my boozing. My body just does not want to shed the pounds easily.
I'd take up running like DSJ but I find I'm better suited for sprints of say 2 or 3 yards. I'm built for comfort not for speed, what can I say?

Anyone got an update from Commander Data? I am a bit nervous about his Xanax.

He posted on the Rant not too long ago.
I've been cutting alcohol back so much. I feel better but I still suffer from this "impending doom" feeling and it seems alcohol always takes the edge off.
Supplementing alcohol with Cannabis and excercise really helps. And staying busy. Motivation with every day things helps.

For some reason I think I am going to regret this....Been abusing alcohol since my teens (i'm 56 now...). Several instances of complete blackouts and 1 stint in the hospital after being severely beaten when I was blackout drunk (no memory of what happened at all).
Currently every night 375 mL of Knob Creek Bourbon or a 6 pack of DogFish Head 90 minute IPA's (yea, the on that's 9% alcohol). Feel like chit every morning, work is impacted, and suspect it is impacting my memory.
So my goal is to not drink at all Sunday thru Thursday...not ready to give up Friday and Saturday nights (yet).
I want to lose weight (233 now with goal of 205 lbs).
Starting this tonight 10/31.
Best of luck to all of you on confronting your demons.

That is doable. But for the first two or so weeks I'd suggest drinking a little bit in the middle of the week.
You don't want to go 5 days without if you drink heavily on a regular basis. Don't go more then 2 days without until you get comfortable with it.
I'm not saying get passed out drunk. Just have a couple of beers, maybe not the hard ones.
As I said before, its like climbing Mt. Everest. If you just try to walk up to the top of that mountain you are in all sorts of trouble. So you set up a base camp. You get used to that. Then you go to the summit camp. You get used to that. Then you go for the summit.
We are here for you. And if you slip along the way then you slip along the way. I know I will.
