I largely agree with this, though I would throw Chicago, Boston, and San Diego in as well.

Sometimes you have to claim it. When it comes to history, you claim it.

I agree. I love living close to it & can go pretty much whenever I want. I'm much more interested in the history and cuisine now rather than the partying.

I agree. Before moving to Louisiana for college, I thought NOLA/Mardi Gras was just this shitty event that happened in this shitty city. Damn was I wrong. The social scene and culture that is part of NOLA/Mardi Gras is second to none. Outsiders consider Mardi Gras with boobies, booze, and Bourbon (none are bad ) however few ever walk down St. Charles on Mardi Gras to see thousands of kids on their ladders anticipating the flight of beads, drunk fraternity/sorority students, and New Orleans natives with their tailgates of dank arse food. It can't be beat

People go to Bourbon street and think they are doing New Orleans. They don't know anything about the city.

Canal street is the widest non-interstate street in the world. The reason it's so large is: the different countries that had settled there wanted to divide up their territory, a canal was supposed to be built down the middle. That's why all streets in the "French Quarter" are known under different names once they cross canal.

Since it's existence it's been a place for revelry. Men would float on the ocean for months then when they arrived they wanted to party.

Their is so much more to the city than commoners understand. For instance it's truly one of the top 5 dinning cities on the planet. These morons are eating every meal on Bourbon Street when World Class cuisine is everywhere.

On your next trip, try never stepping foot on Bourbon street and planning all of your meals ahead of time with reservations. Then come back to this thread and try to say it's not a great city.
