I don't think it takes anyone with knowledge of guns to understand that folks are able to buy guns at gun shows without proper and thorough background checks.

And to what degree would one need to know guns in order to be a legit advocate for gun control in your opinion?

here's my problem with people who know nothing about gun opining on them.

one of those is a .22LR semiauto rifle and the other one is a .22LR semiauto rifle.

People will lose their shite over the first one regardless of the fact that it's the least lethal round (yes the .22 kills more in crime than any other, but the use:kill ratio is miserably down compared to a .223 or 9mm)

Guns don't fricking kill people, people fricking kill people! If we ban guns then stabbing and beating deaths will rise. People have been killing people long before any weapons were invented and they will be killing them no matter what anyone bans or doesn't ban. Just accept it and buy a few home defense guns so you can prevent ( well at least make it more difficult ) them from killing you.

As for gun control.. Im all for requiring people to take a gun safety course before being able to buy a gun.

Now that's the kind of statement that'll get your lifetime NRA membership revoked.

Ok let's just see there 5th, what does the AR in AR 15 stand for? Does an automatic (semi of course) take a clip or a magazine? What is considered a high powered rifle?

I'll use another example. I don't smoke. Nor have I ever. But I do know that cigarettes are a leading cause of lung cancer.

So should I not speak about cigarettes because I don't use them?

I own guns. I have stated this multiple times. I hunt. I prefer bow hunting, but that is just me. I think I mentioned this the last time we talked gun control, but a client got me a Benelli nova that is pretty freaking sweet.

Horrible, horrible, horrible comparison.

Cigarettes are designed by nature to cause addiction and kill those who use them and those who spend a large amount of time breathing the air they infect.

A firearm is a tool. No more, no less.

I find that hard to believe. Louisiana is the most gun friendly state in the Union, and I have personal knowledge that it's easy to get flagged at a gun show.

If an arrest shows up on your record, you will be required to wait 3 days before you pick up that firearm.

No comparison is going to be picture perfect! It is an example! Get to the point!

Should I not speak about cigarettes because I don't use them? Simple answer here.

you can speak about anything. but to speak about something without being up to speed on the most basc knowledge leads others to belive that you may not have an educated position.

Guns are a much more complex issue than cigarettes. There are shades of grey on which firearms we should be allowed to own, what kind of policies should be in place for selling them, and what kind of safety measures should be taken by one that wants to purchase a gun, and the people who are the loudest on these issues are usually the least qualified to discuss them with any semblance of intelligent thought.

An anchor for CNN or MSNBC is simply not qualified to discuss firearms.

Cigarettes are widely known to be bad for users, bad for the people around them, and bad for overall air quality. They're only legal and not taxed into oblivion because their lobbying groups are among the most powerful in this country, and our nation is obsessed with the right to self destruct.

Hey, I just use my guns to shoot cans.

You know, Mexicans, Africans, Puerto Ricans, etc.

If people are trying to kill you, it's fun to try to kill them / watch them die. Random homicide over small amounts of cash / drugs / pussy is retarded and hard for me to understand.

It's a crapshoot though. What if you think you're protecting your family even though you live in a crimeless neighborhood and years later your child's friend accidentally blows his head off with one of your guns?

Being tactically sound and taking classes is a must to proficiently own a gun and carry it for personal protection. Anything else is an accident waiting to happen.

I could absolutely pick apart your logic...but I won't since this debate is tired. No politician has the balls to propose any gun control legislation. It is political suicide. Probably 99% of politicians are more worried about staying in office or winning election than in passing meaningful legislation.

In a hypothetical world where gun control (not ban, control) is passed, the argument has been made that either A. criminals will still get them and people can't defend themselves and B. Stabbings/beatings will increase.

That is a debate I would rather discuss.

Guns have a very phallic design; this is no mere coincidence. In the early days of civilization, the gun was first designed as a tool to effectively promote penile iconography and oppress outspoken females or witches as they were known then.
