What was different about it?
Harvey damaged over 200,000 homes, destroyed over 12,000, and is estimated to have done around $180,000,000,000.00 in damage.
New Orleans had it worse. Sure, we got flooded and people lost lives, but we had warnings about several days of endless rain in the forecast. We knew Harvey was coming and was going to stall over Texas. The only frick up we had was officials not properly communicating to West Houston residents that the reservoirs were releasing water.
In New Orleans, not a lot of people could have predicted the leeves failing and entire neighborhoods flooding in a matter of minutes (seconds in some instances). Sure, some knew the leaves were in need of repairs, but nobody could have predicted the disaster.
It's sad because Louisianans are very good hearted people who love to have a good time and help others in need. But for some reason, they just can't seem to get out of their own way politically and economically.

New Orleans is a good town
No, it isn't. It's a town with an interesting history. Other than the food, it's the worst large city in the south.

OHHHH they ranked Iowa #1 cause NO ONE IS frickING THERE!
Iowa has more people than Mississippi.
They ranked Iowa higher, because they're healthier, happier, more well educated, and less fricking likely to shoot you for your opioid prescription than any state in the south. The state isn't full of fatass welfare recipients. There are no ghettos or trailer parks. There is almost no crime.
There are a lot of stupid people in this thread, and apparently a lot that have never left their own state.

No, US News and World Report is the worst magazine for getting information about the South.

For me personally, no way. I love it here but I also make good money. I could see where for people without a good job (many folks here), it would be awful.

That doesn't mean it's not true.
I love where I live, and I love being from the south, but it's impossible to argue objectively that people aren't better off overall in the states at the the top of that list.
Poverty, crime, obesity, drug abuse, education, use of the social safety net, personal savings rates, single parent households, teen birth rates, child mortality rates, etc. You are hard-pressed to find any meaningful indicator of well-being where people in the states at the top of that list do not fare better overall than people in the southern states that dominate the bottom of the list.

I don't think it makes much of a difference for hard working and intelligent people.

By definition, the name of the board is: "Off-Topic Board"
But I do agree the topics here should be somewhat sports related. This subject should probably have been posted in the OT Lounge.

Every list like this that comes out ranks them last. My state isn't much better so no smack talk from me.

That's a lot of words just to say Iowa is lily white, unsurprisingly like most other places that rate well in any ranking.

Nothing. Iowa is a boring nothing place unless you are a farmer.

I bet the odds of that happening are lower than being in LA and getting gunned down by Big Pookie or Quantavious.
