When you get to be Dragonmaster’s age I’m pretty sure those things are just scheduled on the calendar.

Cousins get married in Alabama all the time. Why not Wisconsin?

Did you move home to be closer to family?

Maybe the next county over has a square dance you could attend.

I’m worried I’ve made a life in Mississippi that will make it difficult to go home if/when my family ever needs me. That bothers me, and it’s not something you think about as a young man.

They’re called polkas here but yea, you’re on to something there.

I hear you and can definitely relate to that sentiment. Where’s the family? Florida?

Missouri. It’s not that far, relatively speaking, but my wife and her entire family are here.

Ole Miss is not far from my hometown, I stayed in Mississippi for grad school, made a lot of good friends, found good work and stuck around.

Sounds like a familiar story. Didn’t you end up somewhere else for a bit? I remember something from your AMA and some funny quotes about an ex.

No wonder why all of us Midwesterners get along so good here.

Did some time in Dallas. A slight life detour for a couple of years. I liked Dallas and Texas in general. I have a lot of friends and family there. But I ended up back here.

Definitively explains why this board is higher IQ and better behaved.

Hey now-Southeast MO is the South.
Actually it’s part of the Mid-South.

Dallas seems like a magnet. I have cousins that used to live there and loved it but then moved back to La Crosse. I still have two cousins in the Meredian area, used to have three but one just moved back here. One of them that’s still down there came up here for Christmas with the wife and three kids and I couldn’t bear to do that to someone. It’s one thing to marry someone with roots in the next state over but across the country is rough. One person ends up having to sacrifice a lot more than the other.

That's true. He could align with Midwestern gods like us, or try to be southern like BowlJackson.

My hometown is 6.5 hours from where I live now, so it’s not that bad. But it’s still tough when my parents and siblings are there (one is in Northern VA), and I’m here.

Yea we have brats and beer. It’s much better here. BJ, with his Iowa roots, is the OTB MW crew’s protocol son. He will return to us one day.
