Bear is a unique one for sure, I'd definitely try it if I'd been in your situation. I wouldn't have high expectations though, was it gamey?

I have had bear once and it was pretty darn gamey. But that might be because people didn't know how to fix it.

I've had raccoon that was gamey as can be and I've had coon that was quite tasty.

I think I ate some as a kid at a Wild Game Dinner put on by RA's in the church I grew up in.

I don't remember how the squirrel was, but the alligator was good. Rattlesnake tastes good, but not worth picking out all the bones

Not at all. May have been the way it they cooked it, roasted and in a gravy It had the look of being tough and coarse but wasn't, not that it was tender. Have read it can depend of what they've been eating, as in the time of year

Finally watched the squirrel video and that's it. We'd hunt them with the cousins and my aunt would have last trips results for breakfast. Never knew aging was making them better.

possum (only once its terrible),
It probably wasn't cooked right. You gotta stuff it with sweet potatoes if you're gonna roast it, because possum's greasy as hell and the potatoes will soak up the fat...the same goes with the potatoes if you cook it in the oven. Properly prepared possum or coon is nothing to turn ones nose up at.

The vast majority of the country. It seems like we are missing out based on these responses though, this has been insightful for me

I would think almost everybody in East Tennessee has that's from here or lived here for an extensive amount of time.

I have tried it. I had a famliy member who got really into survivalist/redneck type shite for a time, and cooked some kind of stew with it and brought it for Thanksgiving.

I remember having turtle soup once as a kid, too.

It was one of those "back in the olden days sometimes we'd eat stuff like this" type learning experiences. It wasn't something I was ever offered again.

Greasy, gritty, almost no meat. Grandma cooked it and between the smell, texture, taste was just horrible
