I think it's far more foolish to quibble over stuff like this. Who cares?? It usually comes off as an attempt to cheapen accomplishments and it ignores individuals & their individual experiences. It's bad vibes & negativity that nobody wants.
My grandpa was an old white man, he grew up on a share cropper farm in the depression. He was the youngest of 12. He would get up at 5am every morning to start the fire & help his sisters while his brothers were helping with the farm. One died in the war and another died working on power lines. When he got older he started helping on the farm too. He spent 50 years working his arse off in the hot South Georgia sun as a farmer & later as a plantation manager. There are tons of old white men that grew up the same way.
Nobody wants to have their achievements invalidated, to listen to some random snob tell them they had it easy, their struggles were nothing, and that some other guy had it way worse because of his skin color and not his actual life lived. You said it yourself "plenty got big legs up from their parents." Their skin color doesnt matter, their family & wealth are what matters.

The only part that rings hollow from above is the last line.
I mean you're right that it's more about money and family. But it's kind of blind to not realize that a group of people where the majority are only a few generations from slavery or legal discrimination in education and employment opportunities aren't going to have as much generational wealth built up in their families to have that leg up on average.
It's pretty understood the correlation between skin color and wealth and the reasons why that correlation exists in the US.
Again, it's not that anyone should be ashamed that they had benefits in that matter. But denying that the difference is there is simply distorting reality.
It's not so much that it's important or that you should care, but you shouldn't lie about it to try to make a point. Saying "white men have it hard" in the US is simply a falsehood. While some individuals in that group did have at hard, the truth is as a group they've had it easier than literally everyone else in the US.
Now can you point to specific exceptions? Of course. Bill Clinton had a harder upbringing than Obama for example. But saying that whites have a harder time in the US than blacks is simply false.
It's not a quibble. It's simply pointing out false statements being used as evidence for an argument. Saying "white mean are the only ones who had to earn everything and never had anything handed to them" is simply false. They are the group most likely to have had things handed to them.
Did all of them? Of course not. But it's a really stupid statement for anyone to make.

If you gave me 3 million dollars when I was 20 and I put it in an account earning 4% interest compounding yearly, at 75 I'd have 26 million dollars without doing anything at all with it.
If you add in the 580 million in loans Trump has had forgiven outside of bankruptcy and 1.8 billion in debts that he's had forgiven through bankruptcy proceeding, that would put the "do nothing" guy who did nothing with the 3 million he'd be gifted at over 2.3 billion dollars.
Not sure where Trump stands now if you subtract his debt. He owed half a billion to the state of New York in civil trial decisions at the moment for example. I'm sure there's other debts we're unaware of.
When you talk about turning money into money, you have to factor in what you borrowed too. If I got a 3 million dollar gift from my dad and then borrowed 100 million dollars... I didn't "turn it into 110 million dollars. It still nets out to 10 million when you subtract the debt.
Trump rarely had a net worth above the 2.5 billion in debt forgiveness he'd gotten through bankruptcy and other legal means. It's only been since Truth Social took off financially in the last year or two that he's gotten much past that point. He has 1.1 billion in real estate wealth as of May of 2024. 6.4 billion from Truth Social (according to Forbes)
Truth Social stock has dropped 30% since that point. So it's probably more like 4.5 billion in value now. But the reality is that he pretty much only got more wealth than the amount of debt he had erased in the last couple of years.
His "scorecard" for wealth created until then was mostly negative.
