I actually had a friend of mine suggest busting out the "n" word a time or two, should easily get me dismissed.

Whatever you do don't try to "hide" by not saying anything/laying low. That's how I ended up on a jury.

Just say you think they're all guilty.

That's how most everyone ends up on a jury.

Each side's going to have a list of the jurors they want, the jurors they want to get rid of, and the jurors that are ok/unknowns.

One side's want list is the other side's want to get rid of list. The ones that sat quietly and laid low are the jurors left when the smoke clears.

Well. I am actually pretty intuitive and my profession always gets me struck. I just answer honestly. Not to mention, my family is so legally connected, no one wants to mess with me. I have been summoned 3 different times and been struck each time.

Not surprising... Luckily @ 22 I've never been summoned. And it's gonna be kinda hard to do so while I'm in California, but claiming a Highland Park residence. Life's a ball when you're a student.

I was summoned twice while in school. Once I was out of state and so they dismissed me, and once it was during summer, and I was in town, so I had to appear. The third time, it was exactly a year after I had gotten a new drivers license in a different state.

couldn't you just tell them you read or about the crime and you are ready to help put that POS away for life. Doesn't matter about the crime. I think that's instant DQ

Yes, if it's been on the news or in the paper. I saw several people dismissed for this. I was stupid & told the truth (that I hadn't heard about it) and got picked right away. I think both sides were looking for another female, as well.

Must be nice.

I was never even summoned in Arkansas. I had barely gotten settled in, in Louisiana, when I got the letter. From then on, it seemed like they had a bullseye on me. I would expect to get something in the mail a week or two after the "no summons" time had expired.

I definitely think that once you are in the rotation, they keep picking you.

I think so, too, and told them so when I got called the last time, but couldn't go because I was legitimately sick. I thought about just not showing up, but I would probably be the first one on the list for an arrest warrant.

In all seriousness though some advice I got from a lawyer on this was to appear intelligent, they select the dumbest people they can find. no offense to anyone who got stuck serving jury duty.

Not necessarily, it depends on the trial, criminal or civil, how high-profile it is, what kind of evidence (a lot of scientific vs. circumstantial), etc.
The jury I was on was made up mostly of professionals. It was a rather high profile criminal trial for the area with mostly circumstantial evidence, and not much of that. They were looking for a jury who would most likely convict with that limited amount of evidence and not look for a reason to acquit.

Well then you get into the chess game of jury selection with the two sides too. You can go in and be less than desirable for either side, but if there are people who are thought to be even less desirable or more risky, they will be struck.
