In the form of Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore. And I thought Mississippi was backward.

Nah, Wallace's own daughter said that Roy Moore is much worse.
Wallace was just a talented politician and said what got him votes. In early 60's Alabama being a segregationist got him votes. Later in his career he became a "born-again" Christian when that movement was big and reversed his racist stances and began apologizing and pandering to blacks because that's what got him votes then.
Moore is just a close-minded Southern Baptists who's ideals are stuck in the past.

Wallace was the most popular governor Alabama ever had.
Roy Moore didn't even make it past the primaries.

Why do so many fundamentalists think that they can just ignore any laws they find disagreeable; and worse, think they can force others to ignore them, too? I despise our tax structure in this country but I don't refuse to pay because I'm an American and am happy to be a citizen.
This guy thinks state laws are superior to federal rules. I just shake my head whenever I read an article about him.

Yet somehow he keeps getting elected. This is a case of the people getting the representatives they deserve rather than the ones they need.

I went to the Lewis Black show in Montgomery last night. He had a good bit on Moore.
Black also said he wants to perform in Oxford, but the theatre on campus doesn't allow profanity, so the only place he performs in MS is Biloxi. Is this true Ole Miss fans?

I think his whole point is that the Federal government has infringed on states rights and outstepped its authority. A lot of people feel that way.

He is what happens when people go into the booth and pull the R or D lever without even looking at the ballot.

IMO, George Wallace was a lot different from what people thought of him, and how history will depict him.
He Knew what the ultimate outcome would be,so he escalated certain situations, the Feds moved in,took the ball out of his hands. He got what he originally wanted, but kept support on both sides.
Believe this or not, not many years ago,I have been in Many Black Homes In Alabama, that had his Portrait on the wall.
He duped some folks, like something out of a Faulkner Novel, his final results tell the tale.. IMO

End the popular election of judges and this scenario probably becomes far less likely. I don't trust your average American to choose where I eat, much less who should be the chief jurist in my state.
