Well yeah. I live in Richmond Hill but it’s just easier to say Savannah.

I say Birmingham to anybody that isn't from the area (as do most people from the metro area) but I only ever lived in the actual city limits for 1 year. Somebody from the Birmingham area asks where I grew up and I say the specific area of Hoover I grew up in because it's basically like it's own little small town within Hoover. I rarely answer Hoover when asked where I'm from.

I feel anyone in the south would know where Hoover is if you told them you were from there.

Some random 90's babies from around the country would know too cause of that TV show about the Hoover football team.

Dirtydawg tellin the truth. I’d tell people I was from Hoover. People anywhere in the south or familiar with SEC schools is gonna know where Hoover is, plus the high school is famous among millineiLs because of two-a-days.

If they don’t know Hoover,AL, they clearier don’t know the south or good southern sports, so just do as you did, and say Birmingham, and know you’re smarter than them in at least one area of geography.

Yeah, I do still occasionally meet people who live to ask about Two-A-Days if they find out where and when I went to HS.

And you're right that most people around the South seem to know where Hoover is. I still prefer to say Birmingham though because it seems a lot of people seem to have a preconceived image of Hoover people that's closely related to the football program that stems back to the show and when they first started getting nationally ranked every year... But it's possible I'm just conditioned to think that because when I was in HS it wasn't a surprise if you go to a party and run into guys from another HS who wanted to start a fight just because we we're from Hoover. Even if there wasn't a fight there was guaranteed to be mean mugging and shite talking that would always involve the football team, the show, and Rush Propst.

That also plays into why instead of saying Hoover itself I say the specific area of town I'm from when talking to people from other parts of the Birmingham area.

When I was a kid the code phrase was to not let the "apartment kids" get zoned to BPE for fear it might "bring down the test scores" for the rest of us

The fact that I can remember every minority I went to elementary school with by name, and barely make it to my second hand to count them all on my fingers is pretty sad.

I haven't been a member in a decade now, but that might as well have been my summer day care growing up. You would have had a better chance of winning the lottery than showing up at Shades Cliff Pool on any given summer day from 95-05 and not catching myself or one of my siblings there.
