Yes, a pretty horrible form of cancer, from what a I understand, aggressive & fast spreading.

Sad. Another lost from my childhood. I heard her speak once at a church a few years ago, maybe 15. Great speaker, great lady.
I always thought she was so beautiful & "real" when I was a child - still do. She was extremely genuine & kind from all accounts.

I used to date her in about '65.
Too bad she didn't know it.
RIP Elly

95% of all people that are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die in the year of diagnosis. We lost my mother-in-law to this disease. My wife and sister-in-law work with a gastro intestinal cancer foundation that supports cancer research at UAB.

I'm sure you weren't the only one wishing that back in the day.

She was always my favorite female character on tv when I was young & watched the reruns. Loved her tomboyish personality, but she was still so cute, as you said. Just hate to hear she had such a terrible illness.

I had heard that pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest, but I don't know if the overall general population is aware of it. Glad to know there are people like your family who are working with foundations that support research on it. So sorry about about the loss of your mother-in-law.

I remember when Patrick Swayze was diagnosed, it wasn't very long before he passed away. Evidently, by the time people begin having symptoms, it has already spread. Very scary. ... Although I'm sure there are other factors such as genetics, etc., I do know smoking is a leading cause of it.

I hed no idea she was suffering so badly
praying she's in a better place now.
And yeah I watched a lot of TV land with my folks growing up. I'm probably more familiar with the cast and seasons of shows like the Andy Griffith Show, Gunsmoke, Gilligan's Island, Beverly Hillbillies than I am with the cartoons most of my peers watched, tbh

One of the Big 3.
Man, she was 82, now I feel even older.
I know you were fond of her as evidenced by all your avatars so thinking of you with this loss.

I still watch reruns of Andy on TV Land - life long addiction.

CG, she was probably the first female tv character that I kind of identified with at a very young age. ... It's just hard to imagine her being 82 after watching the reruns for so long. ... She was very well thought of down here & was very humble - remained a "country girl" even after Hollywood.

I always thought Elly>>>>>>>both Ginger & Mary Ann. It used to piss me off how dumb they both were. If Elly May had been stranded on that stupid island with those idiots, she'd have caught dinner every night with trot lines or shot some exotic bird with a slingshot until she finished making the boat that would've gotten them back to civilization. Those morons would've only been on that island a week, 10 days, max. And she'd have effortlessly looked beautiful doing all of it.
You know what? You make excellent points.

But Mary Ann was a brunette, so I'm biased

Elly May was (and will always be) on Tbird's Blonde Exceptions List, though

Such an awesome show. It's my dad's fave. Think I've seen every episode at least 8 times

Never gets old for me.
