Do you think the Terminator scenario could actually happen one day?

I mean even now, so much is computerized and networked. Compare today to just 50 years ago. If we don't have a World War in the next 50 years imagine the progress that is possible. Hmmmm....

I'm almost positive that Amazon or Google will inadvertently give birth to Skynet. We're all fricked

I think the evil AI will come from the computer responsible for the fryer timer at Kentucky Fried Chicken.

I would assume they have systems in place to keep Google from becoming sentient!

We're ok until they robotize the law enforcement. But then they already have drones that take people out.

Carbon, 3D printers, we're almost there. Only need one bit with AI and SkyNet becomes real.

You think we need quantum computers first?

I think its definitely possible, if we were to develop a real AI why do we think we could expect it to behave within certain "don't hurt humans" rules we set for it. Intelligent people purposefully break rules all the time especially when they see a better option outside their bounds, I expect an AI would do the same and then we'd all be screwed.

An AI with access to the Internet of Things could annihilate us all by starvation very quickly. The nukes and most of the fun stuff are in private intranets/walled gardens so I don't think Skynet nuking everyone would actually happen.

I don't think the people who would be responsible for creating the AI would give it "don't hurt humans" parameters, only "don't hurt me" parameters.

They could send robotics to get to the silos, or just make their own nukes.

Full scale wipe out the humans?

Nah, probably not. We are still pretty far from a computer being fully sentient.

Now, that having been said, I wouldn't be at all surprised if one of the proposed autonomous drones the Military is talking about building got its instructions confused and did something like launch a Hellfire missile strike on a school outside a military base.

The best course of action is to only have a 5-10 foot power cord for these robots. Having cordless robots will be the downfall to humanity, if we can ever make it that far.

I don’t think anyone will send a person back in time to impregnate his mother
