Crack heads stole my freaking plumbing.

So I just bought a house and when I met the previous owner there to get the key and sign the paperwork I decided to take another look around. I noticed that someone had cut out my copper freon lines to the AC unit. I then crawled under the crawlspace and noticed that all of my supply lines had been cut out. They were mostly copper. On top of that, they also stole the gas lines from the water heater, the furnace and the gas logs in the living room. I am sick to my stomach over this and I would probably be in jail if I had pulled up and saw the lowlifes that did it.
They probably only got a couple hundred bucks at the scrap yard and maybe got high for a whole day. I still signed the paperwork because I love the home and I got it 23,000 dollars cheaper than it appraised for.
I used to feel sorry for drug addicts but this incident has changed my mind. frick em.

was the house insured under the previous owner at the time? if so, see if he can make a claim if you pay the deductible and maybe give him a little kickback for his troubles

He let the house sit for 3 years before he decided to sell it. No insurance. That was the first thing I asked him. He is 88 years old and moved to an old folks home 3 years ago.

Thank God you decided check the house first. You will always have low life thieves around... I live in a solidly middle class neighborhood, but we've had four homes broken into in the last month. They even hit the homes on either side of us.
Fortunately I work from home so we are always here during the day when they break into homes but its a terrible thing to not feel safe in your own house.

Also, if any of you guys are plumbers or live in the Gadsen area feel free to talk to me about an estimate or if you know someone then please give me a recommendation. I am about to check out Angie's list.

No wonder you got the house for 23,000 less than it appraised for.

That sucks. When I bought my first house, I had a professional landscaper come and plant new shrubs, azaleas, etc in my front yard. About two weeks later, I came home from work and all of the new plants had been dug up and removed. I had heard of thieves stealing copper, but plants were a new one for me.

Sorry for the O.P. That happened a lot in New Orleans, but they'd just rip the siding off as they pulled copper wires out.
New Orleans also had lots of plant thefts. Someone told me about looking out in his front yard one morning and seeing his neighobor's pavers in a line in his yard. Then he went outside and all of his large rose bushes up against the side of his house were dug out. The perps had used the pavers so their feet wouldn't get wet as there had been heavy rain a day earlier.

That's why I've got cameras everywhere, even in the crawl space, that store video online. I've heard so many horror stories about drug addicts stealing stuff that I'm taking every practical action to thwart them.

Really, though, it's the only option left. Get a bunch of cameras. It's pretty cheap these days, and at least you have some recourse for violence and vengeance.

Went and bought a surveillance system last night and I am about to head over there and install the cameras. I also am building a wooden fence around the condensing unit with a pad lock. Gonna do something about locking the door to the crawlspace as well. They stole a thousand dollar plumbing system for 100 dollars at the scrapyard. Bastards.

I deal with a lot of bank repo houses in Memphis. Very common to see $5,000 - $10,000 worth of damage to a bathroom w tile to get $10 worth of copper plumbing.

It's hard to have sympathy for people that intentionally destroy their lives.
When they vandalize to feed their habit; it's infuriating.

Go back with plex plumbing lines
. This
is what all houses we build uses now. Don't how to worry about it.

That is what I am putting in. I hired a plumber and they are giving me new plumbing from the meter all the way. I have to buy a new toilet as well because apparently a year ago squatters broke in and took shits in the toilet and I just refuse to clean it up.
The plumber I hired isn't a gas fitter so I am going to run all new gas lines myself. They stole a good portion of my electrical wire while they were cutting out my Freon lines in the attic and I will replace them myself as well.
I was going to move in December30 but now it is going to be late January or early February. At least this work should last a lifetime.
