if they would be more lax on the laws, i'd down with being the 'limited' partner wihtin an LLC of a chain of these bad boys

Congratulations to Colorado on that 0.3% increase in tax revenue.

Better than it would have been without legalization.

Colorado nets 46 million a year on alcoholic beverage tax, if they can make 30 million the first year on a weed tax I'd say that's pretty good.

Or to say another way, negligible.

Might just be me, but thinking that's probably because of the unusually longer winter, more than pot sales.

And that's actually just in Denver.

Harsh winters usually translate to decreased tax revenue...

1.9 million dollars is negligible, eh?

To a state with 10.25B (2012) as an operating budget, yes, it's the definition of negligible.
The state had an increase of tax revenue from 2011 to 2012 of almost $800M. No one here posted an article about that, I'm guessing.
Growing tax revenues through "sin taxes" is fun and make for really satisfying arguments. They don't actually impact the budget of the state much and will not effectively impact the education budget of Colorado at all.

Except your math is wrong. They raised 1.9 million for schools, which by the way isn't the total tax revenue for pot, in a month. You calculated that as if it were the total for the entire year.

24 Million a year will certainly impact the schools.

No, I used $30M. The projected total for the year.
30,000,000/10,250,000,000=
And I do not believe the total tax revenue collected goes to the schools. Only a portion of it does.

Just read this correctly. You are correct.

1). This charitably assumes the legislature won't fund the Education budget with any changes - that they'll simply tack the $24M on top of the normal allocation. That is unlikely to be the case.
2). As a function of the overall budget for Colorado, the $30M is about a 0.6% increase. As a function of pupils in the Colorado public education system, it is less than $30/student per year.

Doesnt really matter what percentage of the current budget it is. Its 30 million they didnt have last year, and they didnt have to spend any money to cultivate.
