My fiancé’s father passed away recently and she has received a life insurance check. She banks with chase but there’s no branches nearby and Mobile deposit has a limit. Any idea’s on how to deposit the check?

I Bleed Garnet is our resident banker. Perhaps he could have some advice. I also have a bank without any local branches and when I’ve absolutely had to make a large deposit or withdrawal I’ve been able to drop in to BoA, pay a flat fee, and do it. Unpleasant but it’s worked.

edit. I did not read entire post and suggested mobile deposit. So much for speed reading.

What bank is the check from? If there is one of those close call and see if they can wire transfer the funds to the chase account.

Send it certified mail.

Thankfully when my MIL passed away the funeral home helped us with all of this. We do live in a small town, but they have resources to use life insurance to pay for services and deal with the banks.
One frustrating thing though was a local bank who wouldn't cash her last check because, "she doesn't exist anymore". Took it to the funeral home and they had another bank cash it for us.
This probably doesn't help OP, but just saying what happened for us.

Also, this is why you should stick with credit unions. Those mobile limits can be increased for times like these, but big banks like Chase won't even talk to you.

this is my main issue. I can't even get someone on the phone which is foreign to me bc I grew up with a small town bank that I could literally call any individual at any time I needed to. It baffles me that there's no chase banks in Mississippi (she works in Batesville) or Memphis where I'm at.
Probably gonna just get here to switch to Regions or Suntrust

Certified mail is the way to go. It will take a few days, but unless you want to take a road trip, this is what I would do.

Could you use the life insurance check to get a cashier's check from wal mart or something? I've seen people turn pay stubs into money orders, so maybe you can do the same with this and a cashiers check. Only cost about $10 I think.

She's just gonna open a regions account, makes more sense anyways long term.
Thanks for the help

Where do you live that there are no chases?
And that you have one to start?
I remember when i was in college a bunch of northerners had banks that weren't in Columbia (PNC was one of them IIRC) and they all just changed their checking to BOA or Wells Fargo

We’re still living in oxford. She works in batesville and I in Memphis. None of the 3 have a chase but regions are every where around here

This was going to be my suggestion. She can always transfer the funds to her Chase account if she doesn't like Regions.

I love my CU - its part of an alliance that alows me to go to CU's anywhere in the US and deposit/withdraw as if i was in my CU in Alabama.
used to live in WI, but still did all my banking with my CU in Birmingham, an visited a CU in Milwaukee to do deposits and so on.

Open up an account at regions for free then transfer $ to chase or keep it open considering you could have an issue like this again and it's also nice to have a bank you can walk into when needed.

Closest Chase is probably Texas...Bowl is right Wally World will do it, not sure about fees, but another option (one that we take advantage of particularly with Chase checks) is getting it converted to a cashiers check at a payday loan place and the fees are lower, ones around where I work are $2 and 3 for a conversion
