Both suck.

The best large city in the South is Nashville with Charlotte in second.
The best smaller city in the South is Charleston with Chattanooga in second.

the correct answer would be Dallas, then Atlanta.

Then Charleston and Asheville.

I've been to NOLA several times and now live in Atlanta. I definitely prefer Atlanta.

Sorry, my friend. Dallas isn't Southern. If there's one thing Texans and Southerners agree on (other than the proper occasion for arse-less chaps) it's that Texas is not Southern and nobody -- Texans and Southerners alike -- wants it to be.

good lord, not this shite again. Texas is by any definition a Southern state. We have our Texasness, which comes before our Southernness, but we all generally talk the same way and do the same shite throughout the year. Football, hunt, fish, repeat.

Dallas is Texan, not Southern. The fact that there's even controversy about it should remove it from contention, there's no debate about whether NC, GA or LA are southern.

Not sure what Texans you're referring to, but I'm not one of them. You're welcome anytime to come down to East TX and be proven wrong.

People in upstate Michigan do those things too, and they're not even slightly Southern.

I've been in Texas several times. It's redneck, for sure. That's different from being Southern, though. It's a Venn diagram. I've never personally met a Texan who consider him or herself "Southern" though I've met plenty of Yankees who didn't know the difference. If you consider yourself Southern, that's fine. We're God's people and I can't blame you for wanting to be one of us.

Where all in TX have you been? It's a big state and we are not all the same, or even close.

Just upstate, actually, not the UP. I lived near Traverse City. No dirty Yoopers for me.

Southern in this discussion means southeastern.

Texas is obvious right on the border of being Southern.

Pro:
part of the CSA (say what you will about it, it is a solid measuring stick for southerners (looking at you Kentucky)
Has an SEC Team

Cons:
Texasness,
It is pretty Southwest as well.
Traditional Big 12 territory. Hard to make a state southern just by adding a SEC team.

Atlanta and Dallas are probably a lot better if you're 45 with 3 kids. New Orleans is the best city in the south for young people.

Though I'd give the nod to Asheville rather than Chattanooga

Atlanta traffic is awful. I would go insane if I didn't live just two miles from work.
