Fort Pickens in Pensacola has some of the prettiest beaches on the planet that I ever saw. Pensacola beaches in general are almost as pretty but the developed parts are not as nice as Fort Pickens, in my opinion.

The islands off Mississippi (do not know the names) are absolutely gorgeous...but only accessible by boat. For those lucky enough to be able to access them though it is shocking how gorgeous they are.

Destin/30A beaches are beautiful, but the crowds have made it unbearable.

Myrtle Beach

Dirty Myrtle is not a great beach at all....its OK for families as the beach is WIDE and the water is very gentle most of the time....but it is pretty dirty as the name implies. Also almost impossible to get to. We live about "4" hours from Myrtle Beach....and the few times we have gone we would spend the night in Florence because it takes about 12 hours to get to Myrtle Beach because of traffic. It is WAY worse than the HORRENDOUS traffic jam that usually starts in Columbus, Georgia and lasts until you get north of Columbus on the way back from the redneck riviera...

California beaches are incredibly nice but you really can’t get into the water.

You can if you're a polar bear...it is shocking how cold the Pacific is compared to the Gulf and the Atlantic. It makes for a fantastic climate but you gotta be tough to swim in the cold arse Pacific. I imagine if you are from the area you get used to it....folks in Michigan and Indiana swim in Lake Michigan and it is frigid.

I agree about Siesta Key it’s the best beach in Florida and it’s not remotely close.

Cape San Blas is excellent IF you want to litteraly be on an Island. Take coolers full of food and a grill as you will need it.

Restaurants are few and far between!

You should have seen Destin and 30A forty years ago. Uncluttered, undespoiled paradise.

Pinellas is OK, but I am with you. Got to go south of the skyway.

The tall condos in Pinellas suck, although you can find areas like Bellair Beach without them. It's also a bad part of many of the Panhandle beaches.

Down votes are Gulf Shores people who have never been anywhere else and have no clue better places exist.

I agree with your #1. The general Destin/Miramar Beach area is my favorite anywhere. I like Ana Maria Island near the Tampa area as well.

Agreed on East Coast beaches being a clear step down compared to Gulf beaches. Spent a lot time in the Jacksonville/St Augustine beach area. Ugly beaches in general.

I didn't downvote your Gulf Shores take but have to disagree. It's true that Gulf Shores/Orange Beach simply can't match up to the Destin/30-A area beaches but the beaches themselves are as nice as any non-Florida beach in the entire Southeastern U.S. GS/OB is what it is. Average to above average beaches with middle of the road accommodations that is generally speaking a more affordable alternative to nicer Florida panhandle beaches to the East.

As for so called fat ugly women in the Gulf Shores area there are plenty of those but there are also plenty of fine women as well.

Outside of the orginal Doc's are there any good seafood restaurants?

Not OB, but Jesse's in Magnolia Springs might be the best resturant on the entire gulf coast east of Louisiana. They opened a second location in Fort Morgan that I have yet to try.
Tin Top in Bon Secour is solid, even now that it is more crowded than ever
Cobalt in OB is damn good.
Cosmo in OB is also top notch. Same for Big Fish. Both of these are within walking distance of Docs btw.

I like Doc's for fried seafood, but all of those listed are better in my opinion.

St. Augustine, Florida is fantastic.

South Beach is amazing. People come from all over the world to go there. The beach is great as well. Water is blue and sand is just fine.

All of the South Florida area on the Atlantic side is good. I'd rank it over the Tampa area. But, there are also amazing beaches all down the west coast of Florida as well.

I love 30A/Destin and have been there my whole life. But, I also think that a lot of folks in the Deep South need to broaden their horizons a bit. There are better places to vacation.
