How do law schools rank nationally? I mean, I don't know what tu is ranked compared to SMU, but if I wanted to practice law in Dallas, I would be a fool to go anywhere else. At a certain point, rankings don't matter to much, and you should just go regional. If you wanted to practice law in and around Birmingham, it seems like a no brainer. I don't know what kind of weight that would have here.

There's a lot of truth to that. For example, you're better off with a law degree from SMU or Texas over nearly every other school if you are going to practice in Dallas or Houston. The same could be said all over the country. I do think a law degree from a high ranking law school gives you a leg up in neighboring cities and states when going against grads from a non instate school
For example, Alabama law grads do really well in Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, and even D.C. in addition to dominating the home state.

Awesome for Bama. I didn't even both applying to Bama, I knew I wouldn't get in. How many out of state applicants do they take each year? Are there that many in state applicants to push Bama up this high?? I know a guy who transfer from Jones to Bama this year. Lucky/smart move.

Have a buddy who is considering Jones. How bad of a school is it?
It depends. I wouldn't say its bad at all. They have a 94% bar passage rate in state, that is crazy awesome. Your buddy should have a strong dose of reality though. He will be at the bottom the three instate schools competing for jobs along with out of state schools like MC, Ole Miss, UGA, Tulane, Loyola, etc. Jones is expensive, but they have a strong advocacy program. Their career office does a great job helping students out. All in all, if your buddy is will to bust his arse and willing to work his way up the ladder and he HAS to know how to network, he will be fine.
