Best small city in the US. You’ll enjoy it.
Mount Pleasant is nice but overpriced. James Island is improving. Just don’t live in North Chas and you’ll be fine.

One brother lives on James Island, just a short drive into downtown and Folly Beach. Nice area.
Other brother lives in Summerville, population about 50,000. 25 miles north and commutes to Charleston.
Depends on your marital/family situation as far as where to live.
Both brothers are married with kids.
