I love the South. I can’t wait to get back. People are ignorant and small-minded everywhere—not just the South. I live in DC, and I’ll take southerners every day of the week over these people.

Well said. There isn’t a region in each southern state I couldn’t learn to love. Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas. All have great features and you hit it on the head.

Personally, I’m more of an upland south or rolling hills type of person. The gulf coast is beautiful. There’s just something about those big pine trees, lakes, rivers and rolling hills that gets me. The people are unique and different almost everywhere you go. The food is diverse and if you’re not careful, it’ll put a few pounds on you.

Sure, but it's more prevalent in the South. Many actually take great pride in it.

They say you can't really appreciate it until you leave a place. Best I've done is a two week vacation. South is fine, you can find good people anywhere. Really every place I've traveled seems more or less the same other than NYC. Really enjoyed my stay out in Oregon and Washington. Wouldn't mind living out there one day.

I disagree that it’s more prevalent. It’s just about different things.

No. The ignorance and small mindedness drives me insane sometimes. I love aspects of the south, but southerners are stubborn as hell over anything that challenges their status quo, and it can be tiresome.

Man, this all day. I really like the South for the weather, cost of living, traditional college towns, and generally good people.

However, once I grew up and started spending a lot of time doing business around the country and out of it, my opinion has greatly changed.

Alabama had an SGA president who was black, and I had several friends make mention of how, "it was better back in the day," and "this shouldn't happen."

Dude, just because your side-part, membership to a 3rd tier CC in Birmingham, and beer gut don't impress folks anymore, doesn't mean that change is bad.
