Any of you Baws ever had to teach someone how to drive a Manual Trans?

I am trying hard to get my sister to learn, but she is scared to death.
It's basic repetition.
She is literally afraid to drive a stick-shift though.
Any ideas? Thanks, my baws!
For reference, this is a 1985 Toyota pickup, single cab. Nothing too hard about it.

I've only tried to drive one once, and it was just around the block. So, no.

Empty parking lot or something, and yes, and it was hard.

I learned by driving a little golf course maintenance Jeep type vehicle when I was 19

I’m a grown man and suck at manual transmissions.

I should have been more clear. His friend owned a used car dealership and we borrowed a 90s bug, looked like a barbie car
I know you are talking about the 50s/60s version, and those are badass

Park it on a hill in a parking lot

Taught all three of my sons... first car and everyone needs to know how...
Big empty parking lot... brace Your neck cause gonna be a lot of jerking going on..,
They pick it up pretty fast except one who stalled every time before a wheel even rolled around once... said heck I can not stall it that fast popping the clutch right out and trying to stall....
Watched his feet.... he was all over the place... once we figured that out went smooth (sorta)

Tried to teach my wife on some back roads in GA. She did OK, but was too scared to get up to the speed for 5th gear and was terrified to drive near other cars.
My dad taught me on the decline of a hill—supposedly that helps beginners from stalling in 1st gear

My Dad made me learn on a manual. Can't recall the last time I actually drove one. Certainly wouldn't want to teach someone.

I taught my son and daughter, and bought each a standard as their first cars. I continue to drive a vintage Porsche 6-speed.

Explain it to her like an old school slow dance.

I have taught a couple people. I would first take her to an open parking lot. Before even starting the car get her familiar with how to engage the gear, Identify how to get to neutral and find 1st.
Then go to clutch work. How to start the truck, and just work on moving the truck by slowly moving the clutch in and out until she is comfortable with it. Then progress to stopping. All in first. Then work up to shifting.
Just my two cents

I took my Alabama drivers license test in 1952. If your test vehicle had an automatic transmission, your DL was valid only with a vehicle with and automatic transmission and AT was noted on your DL. If your test vehicle was a straight shift, your DL was valid with all transmissions. I got an older relative to let me take the test in his 1950 Ford with a straight shift.
This thread reminded me of that.

My son and I still don't like to talk about that day.

When I was younger I felt like I was missing out since I didn't know how to drive one, other than cruisin USA at the arcade. As I've gotten older, especially now in 2020, I realize that unless I become a valet there is really no reason for me to need to know how so I don't feel as bad.
